Description
Since Arrogant Bastard Ale was first unleashed upon the unsuspecting public in 1997, the brand has been braving bold territory and upsetting dandies, milquetoasts and fizzy yellow beer drinkers in great numbers. Massively successful, and ever full of vip and vinegar, Arrogant Bastard Ale split off from the restrictive confines of Stone Brewing in 2015. And now, the brethren of Liquid Arrogance is free to explore, cavort and roam how they damn well see fit. For those Worthy few that wish to gaze upon the musings of Arrogant Bastard Ale, Double Bastard Ale, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Arrogant Bastard or other Bastard beers, follow along via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Arrogantbastard.com.

A well timed trip to Seattle allowed me to score one precious bottle of this stuff. I checked 7 places that had some, at least at some point, and one bottle is all I could I find. Not bad considering I live in helplessly Stone-less Florida. Very good beer. The beer poured out of the 22oz bottle with little head. There wasn’t much in the way of aroma. Being a Double Bastard I was anticipating double everything you’ll find in a single Bastard. Not the case. Still I found it a very smooth and balanced beer. The only fault I find in this beer, other than its availability, is that it was a little too smooth and subdued. Not a bad thing at all. Just not what I had expected after waiting so long to finally get a bottle. I thought I’d get run over by the “In your face” taste I was expecting. Great beer. I’d love another.

Lots of hops here amidst a miriad of caramel, citrus, and florals. I just loved the flow of maltiness into the finish, rich with hopiness. A little hint of smokiness in the finish as well. Great beer.

Reddish dark amber with a thick off white head. Aged maderized malt with wood chips notes, and vanilla beans. In mouth, light smooth hops with light butterscotch notes. Rich and smooth. At EBF 2006.

2004 release. Poures a deep mahogany with a nice sized light tan head with nice lacing and that sticks around for a while. The aroma was strong enough to hit me while I was pouring. It had notes of dark fruits, caramel, hops and malts. The mouth is thicker than I was expecting, not syrup-like but definitly creamy. The flavor at first is fruit and alcohol with some caramel as well. Finishes off with hops and alcohol with mild bitterness. This is a sipping brew, much more so than the Arrogant Bastard. Very tasty.

Bottle: Pours deep amber into a shaker with healthy offwhite pancake batter head that leaves lacing as it recedes. Arrogance and oak chip aromas. Smooth and well-balanced. Lasting sour bitter finish. Tap: Dark brown pour into a shaker with small, quickly dissipating head. Marshmallow and caramel notes. Full, well balanced and slightly fizzy with a lingering bitter oak finish. Very nice.

2/19/06 Transparent deep amber coloration with a thick orange-toned head. Malty, caramelly aroma combines with the moderately bitter and smokey flavor. After looking at some other reviews I was expecting a lot more bitterness, but it is a good tasting strong ale. 5/18/07 Bottle has been in my cellar since 2/06 Nose of light citrus hops with caramel; Deep cherry brown with a big straw-orange head; flavor of hop bitterness, caramel, and citrus in a medium thick body. It has aged well! 8/ 4 / 9 / 5 / 16 = 4.2

On tap. Poures a deep red with small head that fizzles away quickly. Has a sweet aroma with caramel and fruits along with malts and a hint of wood. Flavor of caramel and fruit with malts and light oak. Finishes with a little hop bitterness. Has a very smooth mouth to it. A very enjoyable brew.

Poured a deep red with some off white, or tan head. Beautiful aroma of hops, fruit and citrus. Very tasty! Flavor is bitter with plenty of hops, fruit and some pine as well. Some malt is hiding in the background as well. Some will like it, others won’t. I’m glad I’m with those who enjoy this brew.

Draft. Dark amber with an off-white head. Nice hoppy aroma with some vanilla. Oak flavor with sweet malt and hops. Hops a bit more subdued than the regular arrogant bastard. Too much oak for my tastes.
