Description
We brew unique beers, one barrel at a time

We also offer wines, hard ciders, a locally focused snack menu, and a generally laid back Wisconsin tavern vibe. In fact, the only thing we don’t offer are the answers to life’s greatest questions... although some say they can be found at the bottom of a glass.

Draft: Deep ruby-brown with a small tan head. Smoky cherry, raisin, chocolate aroma. Taste is sweet, brown sugar, caramel malt, chocolate malt. Gets a little tart towards the finish. Nice.

Bottle. Milk, lemon, biscuit malt, and straw aroma. Yellow with large white head. Moderately sweet light citrus, barley malt, and mildly bitter straw flavor. Okay body.

Tap at One Barrel. Not so bad. Almost like a Cream Ale at times. Easy going, corny, malty tones. The malts are a little unattenuated, but overall decent for the style, nothing off at least. Sessionable, a little malty for the style, not much wheat.

Now Banjo Cat. A pretty respectable Black IPA. One of the more centered and drinkable offerings I’ve had from OneBB. Brown black body. Thick steady beige head. Luscious roast chocolate tones. Respectable hop balance. Right on.

Barrel aged version. 8.5%. Deep brown-black body. Steady thick beige head. A lot of odd tastes going on. There is an oily, leathery tone that makes me think infection. The barrel and deep malts attempt to keep it afloat. Chewy caramel. Drinkable, but like a failed amateur hour experiment. Barrel crap.

Tap at One Barrel. Unfiltered orange-tan honey body. Not much of a head, but filled to the top so I’ll take it. Very reminiscent of DFH Midas Touch. Sweet, but watery. Mead like body. Mead beer. Watery homebrew belgian mead.

Tap at One Barrel. Kind of stillish malty body. Not much depth or herbal character even. Almost more like an insipid bierre de garde than a pale ale. Piny tones. Almost OK.

On tap at Cooper’s Tavern in Madison, pours a murky black with some bright white head. Nose has burnt toast, some light coffee notes, pine resin, soap, herbs, dried citrus peel. Flavor balances roast and citrus well, toast, bread, orange, pine, soap. Full bodied, dry and bitter finish. Really solid and what you expect of the style.
