About
Established in 1719, Belhaven is Scotland’s oldest working brewery. With abundant local barley, fine water from the brewery well and access to markets up and down the coast, Belhaven was the perfect place for a brewery back then, and it still is today. In 1719, Dunbar market gardener John Johnstone erected a brewery close to Belhaven Bay and founded a brewing dynasty which was to last for 250 years and a brewery which would last much longer. The brewery and maltings persevered through the wars and upheavals of the early 20th Century and was eventually sold by John Johnstone’s descendants in 1972. In 2005 is was taken over by Greene King who kept the Brewery open in Scotland.

Draught. Deep ambery orange colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some spiciness, mild alcohol, nutty and some toffeeish tones too. Flavour is pretty much following the same pattern as the aroma for elements.

Bottled. Amber colour with a small white foamy head. Aroma is grapefruit, some citrus, floral tones with mild pine to it. Flavour has pretty much the same elements to it, but also some herbal and mild elderflowery tones. Big grapefruity finish and aftertaste.

Bottled. Goldeny amber colour, small white head. Aroma has some diacetyl, mild toffee, some floral and wooden notes. Flavour is floral, some diacetyl, toffee and mild herbal and grassy notes.

Chestnut brown with a frothy/creamy white head and a sweet, malty nose. Malty, sweet and fruity with the tiniest hint of spice

Canned (thanks Patte!).Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is grainy, some floral, grassy and mild earthy notes. Flavour is floral, grassy, herbal, fruity and some slight not-to-sweet fruit sugary notes. Simplistic and very boring.

Bottle.Mahogany colour with medium head.Aroma is mild smoked and sweet with flavor of caramel and brown sugar,medium body and malty finish.
