Super deep and opaque dark brown coloured body with an almost non-existent off-white head that fades very quickly and leaves nothing up top. Aroma of roasted malt, figs, earth, nuts, grain and some deep caramelised sugar notes with only a touch of licorice and bitterness poking through the nose - this is mainly sweet and subtle, surprisingly. Full-bodied; Rich earthy and super sweet flavours of figs, plums, grain and candy come through with a toffee-like flavour towards the end with some banana and yeastie esters that come through on the finish with a subtle pungency of molasses and even maple syrup. Aftertaste is rich and pungent with a great balance of sugars, malt and graininess with a ton of complexity from the sugars, with a soft dose of lactose near the end, but the figs and dates really show strong here. Overall, a nice and quite elegant beer with tons of sugars that sort of hide the alcohol and pungency here, but this is deep, robust and full-of-flavour while being fairly easy-drinking, at least for the style. Great to try fresh on tap at the brewpub here! I sampled this 33cL pour on draught at Black Hammer Brewpub in San Francisco (SoMa), California on 08-March-2022 for US$8,00.

Super rich and hazy golden and straw coloured body with a thick three to four centimetre tall off-white head that stays afloat for a long time and is a bit big-bubbled. Aroma of deep dry hopped bitterness with a lot of alpha acids noticeable and a deep citrus and grassy, hay-like bite that shows at first with some alcohol in the nose as well. Light to Medium-bodied; Crisp grassy and floral profile at first that shows nicely and brings out a good deal of the bitterness with some perfumey and deep hops with the alpha acids front and centre with some dryness and light sweetness from citrus fruits at the end. Aftertaste shows a lot of perfume and grass, but balanced nicely with some understated malts and a pleasant sweetness brings this full circle nicely. Overall, a well-constructed beer that hits the notes you want for the style, while bringing out a nice complexity and subtle finish that lets it go down easily. I sampled this sixteen ounce pour on draught at Black Hammer Brewpub in San Francisco (SoMa), California on 08-March-2022 for US$8,00.

Too bitter for the style i think. Kinda astringent. Not overly clean. Just okay. Black Hammer sf.

Much cleaner made. Ruby red colour. Good body, mild hibiscus gives it that flower-like rosey flavour. Black Hammer SF

uniquely and extremely full bodied for a sour. Medium-low tartness. Quite clean, and i don't believe the 59ibus, since it doesn't seem bitter at all. Okay for a sour. Black Hammer SF.

Crisp and clear deep amber and copper tinted body with a smooth, single centimetre tall light tan head on top. Aroma of wheat, bread, grain, candy sugar, a good dose of curacao and a lot of Belgian yeast that shows the banana esters and almost cloying sweet smell throughout. Medium to perhaps Full-bodied; Strong very pungent banana and wheatie notes with a lot of grain, a good deal of alcohol and a soft hit of lemons, cake and vanilla on the finish, but the alcohol and deep heavy malts make this quite strong throughout. Aftertaste shows all the sugars at first with oranges, bananas and curacao the strongest, but a good hit of alcohol and yeast make this very nice and complex, even at the tail end. Overall, a nice and distinctly American version of a Belgian Tripel, but shoes nicely with some strong flavours and a lot of alcohol throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce pour on draught from the Black Hammer Brewpub in San Francisco, California on 13-March-2019 while visiting the West Coast.
