About
Grutte Pier Brouwerij is opgericht door Frans Filius en Menno Feenstra (en Michelle Beerstra) die elkaar leren kennen aan de stamtafel van speciaalbier Café de Markies in Leeuwarden. De brouwerij werd officieel geopend op 15 november 2014. Tot begin 2020 was de brouwerij alleen actief als brouwerijhuurder en werd er onder andere gebrouwen bij Bax Brouwerij in Groningen en Admiraal in Aldtserk.
In Leeuwarden was aan de Slauerhoffweg de opslag en tonnenzaal, totdat er in 2020 een eigen brouwboerderij werd ingericht in Bartlehiem. De brouwerij heeft hier de beschikking over een kleine installatie. In de Brouwboerderij worden de nieuwe bieren ontwikkeld en de wilde bieren gebrouwen zoals de Bretttûne.

Pours a slightly hazy golden blond colour and a white head. Aroma's of grain/malts, slightly herbal hops. Flavour is light bitter and light sweet, a bit herbal. Light bodied. Finish is dry, light moderate bitter. Not bad.

Geprobeerd met Roelzie op het Krut bierfestival 2023 in Son. Het is een troebel donkerbruin bier met een volle beige schuim. Hey heeft een aroma van hout en gedroogd fruit. De smaak is vol, fruitig, zacht zoet en houtig in de afdronk.

Amber ale by Grutte Pier in Friesland, referring to local lore and history as usual; thanks to Hinke for sharing! Moussy, egg-white, thick but regularly shaped, stable head, hazy orange-glowing pure amber robe, becoming brownish-tinged and cloudy with sediment. Aroma of dry bread crust, unsalted peanuts, old dried orange peel, unripe peach, hints of clove, nutmeg, thyme, walnut and a very vague hint of liquorice. Sweetish fruity onset, some apricot, drying apple slices and mandarin peel, softish in carbonation with soft, bit 'fluffy' body; bready and peanutty to lightly caramelled maltiness, the breadiness strongly enlarged by a bready yeast effect, which also brings spicy notes (thyme, clove, nutmeg again), before a floral and earthy hop bitterness takes over, matching with the thin toasty edge of the malts and the breadiness of the yeast. Very bready finish in all, with lots of phenolic spiciness, but never becoming bothersome or disorganized. Decent bready amber - reminiscent of the earthy, yeastier and stronger 'ambrées' of Wallonia more than the cleaner, lighter 'spéciales belges' of Flanders, oddly.
