Description
We are Swinkels Family Brewers, a 100% independent family brewer and proud of it. Thanks to three centuries of craftsmanship and a healthy entrepreneurial spirit, we have come to where we are today. With a deep respect for people and for our environment. Because in this respect too, we like to be ground-breaking. This is how we continue to pass a more beautiful Swinkels Family Brewers on to the next generation.
For many years now, we have used 1719 as the year in which we were founded and we mention this year on some of our labels. This is the year from which the oldest excise papers were found. But a municipal archivist who researched our origins last century remarked that the origins of the brewery probably go back much further, to 1680.From 1773 on the brewery and the Swinkels family are connected inextricably. In 1924 we open a new brewery. A year later, the three brothers Frans, Piet and Jan Swinkels founded the company 'Gebroeders Swinkels'. They then introduced a new (bottom fermentation) brewing method for brewing pilsner.
in 1935 the three brothers Jan, Piet and Frans Swinkels open a new brew house, which is still operational today. In 1940 Johannes Swinkels opens our own malt house. This gives us more control over the quality of this important raw material for our beer. In 2007 the 6th generation of Swinkels pass on the baton to the 7th generation. We change our trade name into Swinkels Family Brewers in 2018. A year later the firm receives the Royal designation, changing its name, therefore, to Royal Swinkels Family Brewers.

New review: Tried this again, only to update and hopefully, improve the old and short review. Golden colour, medium sized white head. Nose... typical n/a soggy cornflakes mixed with skunk. The taste was, again, bad, malty and sweet, with some slight offputting hints of salt from time to time. Bad stuff, and worse than I remembered it. Old review:This isnβt beer. Looks ok, but the taste... just sickly sweet malt and water. Taste comparable to that of a pilsener ? Yeah, right. (4/2/4/2/6)

An orange beer with a small disappearing white head. The aroma is malty with distinct notes of alcohol and caramel. The flavor is sweet and alcoholic with notes of caramel. The alcohol burns in the throat.

(my bottle - identical label as illustrated - claims 5% ABV) Clear gold; thick and fluffy yellow head, fed by heavy carbonation, but not very stable. Very grainy nose, and the same time sulphuric - and meant is HΒ²S! This is "skunked", as you Americans call it, big time. Boring, light-sweet pilsener, some maize/corn. And if "hops can easily be distinguished" it must be by their utter absence. Watery texture, with a nearly slimy mouthfeel. Once gotten over the rotten eggs nose, this is "easily drinkable"? If you forget your retronasal perception, perhaps - with a good thorough cold?

Can. Sweet corn/grain aroma. First taste was rather unpleasant but improved as it went down. Slightly sweet malt with little bitterness.

Reddish amber beer with little head, a vineous, malty but mainly alcohol based aroma. The flavour has a dry chemical finish, the bulk of it is malt. Overall a very, very sweet strong beer, much like a barley wine.

Typical lager outfit: yellow golden with foamy white head. Grassy aroma. Plain and simple with grassy hops and malty backbone.

Clear light yellow color, short white head. Aroma is a bit hoppy, some grains, bit metallic. Taste is not different from many other pilseners from the Bavaria Brouwerij. Quite watery, slightly more sweet than usual.

Clear yellow color, medium head, quick dying. Aroma is very hoppy, almost like the Bohemian pilseners, but with a metallic hint. Bitter taste, bit malty, bit metallic. Nice pilsener.
