Almost no head. Orange colour. Tastes like cloudberries. But the alcohol-flavour dominates.

[BOTTLED] Pours dark mahogany colour with a small-ish head. Sweet and malty aroma with notes of liquorice and dark currants. Thick mouthfeel. Sweet and malty flavour with warming alcohol bitter finish.

The initial aroma and flavour of this excessively strong brew is completely dominated by a revolting sweetness, later you find pleasant notes like oak and dried fruit - however much of the sweetness prevails even to the aftertaste, making it almost impossible to finish a bottle. This was my first eisbock, I feel no urge to sample the style again (unless it's for free). I don't need a beer to \"stand in for fine sherry or port\" - given the choice, I'd rather have just that: A fine sherry or port! Call me a conservative dumb-ass if you like, but I still think a beer primarily should taste like beer.

Sure it's black - but I'd go for any Irish or Imperial Stout instead, any time. Disappointing lack of flavour and \"bite\". Of course it's drinkable, but I expected more.

Deep amber with a finger of foam; big aroma - alcohol, toffee, lacquerish phenols, cashews; viscous body; simplistic palate with fat, cloying maltiness and alcoholic dryness. I'm not saying this is Samiclaus, but they are similar in that they use alcohol to try to balance malts and this just doesn't work for me.

Golden-brown. Breadcrusty malt aroma with hints of toastiness. Clean, toasty, with good balance. Some light acidity. I liked it many years ago and I still do.
