Description
Johann Gottfried Glauner decided in 1877 to put the local, closed-down brewery, back on its feet. He sent his son, Karl Albert, to Weihenstephan to learn the skills of beer brewing. Karl returned in 1880 as a master of his trade and with all the energy of his young years, determined to brew "the best beer far and wide". It was indeed a beer destined to outlive its numerous local competitors. To this day the Alpirsbacher beers have lost nothing of their popularity... and the Glauner family continues to brew their excellent beer in Alpirsbach in the fourth generation.

A golden beer with a bubbly collapsing orange head. The aroma is sweet alcoholic, which also lends it some notes of metal. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of alcohol and caramel and a thick body.

Malty nose with apples and grass. Malty mouth with some faint hint of hops giving off apples and lemon. Malty mildly bitter finish. Well made, but boring. WOW who would have thought a German beer would be like that?

Bottle. Lemon malt aroma with slight hint of barnyard aroma. Pale yellow color - cloudy with large lasting head. Light hay and malt flavor with a slight hops finish. A pretty good bottled Kellerbier - probably better fresh from the tap as are most Kellerbiers.

Bottle. Tinny malt aroma - rather weak. Dark brown color - clear with good head. Slightly sweet malt with a flowery hops finish. On the weaker side. A nice mix of pils and schwarzbier without being either. Unique and worth a try.

Dry malty and flowery nose. Deep golden, fluffy head. Sweet malt, a somewhat buttery and dusty note, a hint alcohol and a subtle bitterhop exit. Earthy retronasal. Solid body, sticky mouthfeel. I enjoyed it.
