Description
HIISI was founded in 2013, to fill a rather selfish need; We want to brew beers that we’d like to drink ourselves. Even if we do this for a living now, we still consider ourselves hobbyists of beer – it’s the flavor and meaningfulness of the beer that counts. We believe that, instead of just a beverage and means of intoxication, beer is an experience. Beer should be aromatic, nuanced and balanced, multi-sensory by nature. In addition to brewing great beer, we want to enjoy ourselves. We are here to develop interesting concepts with interesting people. We enjoy translating Finnish mythology and its lesser-known aspects into beers with character. We look for new ingredients and processes to continuously improve our craft and knowhow. We study, we try. We make our own. We will not educate others on the importance of rules, as we often do not follow them ourselves. We don’t concern ourselves with the reinheitsgebot, and we do not consider ourselves to be above any style of beer. That’s HIISI. Beer, against boredom.

Draught @ Villi Wäinö
Aroma is quite light with some spices and pumpkin(!). Also sweet berry notes and caramel. Flavour has pumpkin, some peppery spices, raspberries and distant herbal tones. Not sure where the kuuma (= hot) is, the chili is hardly observable. Feels like some spicy chistmas brew.

Draught @ Villi Wäinö
Aroma has caramel, some bready malt and hints of berries.Feels rather mild and malty for an IPA. Flavour is sweet with vanilla, raspberries and some minerals. Some mellow lhops in the aftertaste. Foamy, creamy and somewhat sticky palate. Quite lame for an IPA - but somehow I do enjoy the sweetness and mildness here. After some sips the hops start to cumulate and this doesn’t feel that nice anymore. Decent anyway.

33 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Oljenkorsi
Aroma has chlorine, some sweetish fruity notes, apriot and banana esthers typical to hefeweizens. Flavoyur has chlorine, banana esthers, yeast, hints of clove and some distant herbal notes. Also grassy belgian hops at the middle of the glass. Odd, like hefeweizen with some hops and fruity belgian notes added. If this is a blond IPA for people alive, then I must be quite dead.

330ml bottle @ Oljenkorsi, Helsinki

Pours yellowish orange with a foamy head. Aroma of yeast, ripe tartish fruits, spices and malts. Taste is quite Belgian styled with notes of tartish fruits, berries, yeast, spices and some grassy hoppiness. Finish is tartish and spicy with hints of bitterness. Okay, tartish Belgian style ale with some hoppiness. Dry bitterness kicks in towards the end of the bottle.

Bottle 0.33l at Oljenkorsi, Helsinki. Colour is clear golden with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Belgian yeast, spices, hops and malts. Very spicy, bottle says "blond ipa" but this is more like Belgian ale with strong hoppiness.
