Description
Bierbrouwerij Sint Servattumus in Schijndel is a traditional brewery, specialized in brewing special (regional) beers.

Started in 1992 as a hobby, Sint Servattumus has now grown into a fully-fledged traditional brewery where brewing is still done with real Schijndel hops!

A hazy orange beer with a small disappearing head. The aroma sour like youghurt with notes of hops. The flavor is sweet in the beginning, but then You get hit by the youghurt sourness. Not really a beer for me - I want hoppyness not youghurt.

The aroma is hoppy with strong notes of apples and banana. The color is a hazy orange but it has no head. The flavor is strong of apples and very fresh. The end is like a sour apple, that lingers.

Brown color; the head disappears quickly. Some malt aroma, too much carbonic gas nose, metallic. Strong caramel character, with a roasted malt note, metallic as well. Strong, drinkable, but really brewed without know-how.

Dark color; non persistent head. Strong aroma: malt, chocolate, light liquorice. Dry mouthfeel, with some malt and liquorice, and a touch of roasted barley; too light sensation. Too short finish.
Good tastes, but too light.

The 2002 St. Servattumus is not brewed at Schijndel, but at de 3 Horne in Kaatsheuvel. It says so on the label! Very uneven bubbling to creamy head, big and small bubbles jumble, fast dissipating. Very dark-brown beer. nose of chocolate malts, milk chocolate, mocca, and a spicy, fresh-smelling pinewood-ish aroma. Bitterish taste. Roasted malts in the first place, but some hops all the same. I seem to detect some light-induced off-taste. Licorice in the finish. Thin texture, only medium-bodied. Flavours gradually dwindle to simple sweetness. Edo has drunk this too young, I fear. He missed this very nice nose. Too bad for me, the beer goes downhill from there.

Sampled at Utrechts Bokbierfestival: Nut brown color, medium lasting head. All different kinds of tastes in it, fruity, sourness, sweet malty. But all are very weak, not a taste that is abundantly present. Overall decent bock, but weak taste.
