Description
Saimaa Brewing Company on yksi Suomen vanhimmista yhä toiminnassa olevista pienpanimoista. Juuremme ulottuvat vuoteen 1995, jolloin ravintoloitsija Pertti Oksa aloitti oluenpanon Mikkelissä 200 litran ravintolapanimossa.

500ml can from Alepa. Pours dark brown with a smooth white head. Aroma of bready malts, caramel and vegetables. Taste is smooth, malty, sweetish with hints of vegetables and yeast. Finish is smooth, quite malty and bready. Decent, a bit unbalanced dark lager.

Smell of smoke and.. bratwurst? Dark brown, muddy. Beige head. Aroma of smoke, bratwurst(?) and Fisherman’s Friend. Yes, this beer played crazy on me. Medium sweet, medium sour.

50cl can. Poured amber in color with a thin white head, not lasting very long. Aroma is mostly cranberries and light maltyness. Flavor has cranberries and malt. Quite sweet, short finish. LIke a longdrink, or cranberry juice. Easy to drink.

Bottled (best before end 0206 (2006), had in March 2013). Deep amber colour, small white head. Aroma is mild fruits, wood, caramel malts and some mild toasted notes. Flavour is rather similar with some mild rye as well. A bit flat as for the carbonation, but otherwise quite pleasant.

A reddish yellow beer with a weak and blond head. Aroma of northern cranberries and malts, northern cranberry is dominating, but that’s OK, due to natural aroma. Taste of malts, northern cranberries, mild bitterness and it’s slightly sharp, slightly musty aftertaste. In the aftertaste sourness of northern cranberries are again there, but still the taste is quite short. Light bodied and very light to drink. Lots of northern cranberries that works quite nicely in the aroma, but in the taste a balance is missing and even nothern cranberries can’t save this beer.

Can 0.5l from local market. "Enjoyed" straight from the can. Aromas and flavours: Cranberry and some hints of malts. Surprisingly dry. I guess it will be hard to find someone who likes this.
