Description
Saimaa Brewing Company on yksi Suomen vanhimmista yhä toiminnassa olevista pienpanimoista. Juuremme ulottuvat vuoteen 1995, jolloin ravintoloitsija Pertti Oksa aloitti oluenpanon Mikkelissä 200 litran ravintolapanimossa.

(Draught at Bruuveri, 20111101) The beer poured brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had caramell, malts and carboard. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, molasses, caramell and low bitterness. Aftertaste was short, malty and lightly bitter. Watery, weak and tastes old even though it is a brand new brew.

33 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Konttori. Rated on 11.06.2011
Aroma is rather floury with wheat and some banana esthers. Flavour is floury and dryish with banana, wheat and some yeast. Way too floury and a bit harsh too.
Draught @ Oluthuone Leskinen as ”Saimaan Vehnä”. Rated on 06.08.2010
Aroma is a bit sourish with grapefruit and earthy notes. Flavour is sour with earthy notes, some lactic acid, grapefruit, wheat and yeasty notes. The sourness is most likely not intentional, but fits here nicely! 6+4+7+3+15=3.4

Bottle from somewhere in Turku. Nice amber-red body, clear though, scant off white head. Strange malty nose, bit sourish. Sweet taste, malt background, sourish plummy fruitiness up front, tasting fake. Vague coffee. Not a good dubbel, and while it has some qualities, it’s far from a great dubbel, and not too brilliant in terms of drinkability. They can do better I guess...

Pours dark brown with a small foamy head. Aroma has notes of caramel and slightly roasted malts. Taste is quite malty with notes of roastiness and hops. Smooth finish with notes of bitterness. Nice mix of a stout and a strong ale.

Finnish dubbel hasn’t historically meant anything else but kerosene, but this time, prejudice didn’t pay. A decent attempt, somewhat caramely and with a trace of berries.
