A 500ml bottle, 7.0 % abv, kindly shared by Elisabeth and Stefan. Fading fawn-coloured head. Poor lacing. Clear, reddish-brown coloured body. Dried fruity aroma, hints of smoked malts. Jam-like taste character, caramel and mid-tart fruits. Dry and semi-sweet ending. Soft in the mouth. Likable without greater excitements. Strange kind of a Baltic Porter (session in Tårnrommet, Tromsø 09.01.2014).

500m bottle from Riga, kindly provided by Elisabeth & Stefan. Black with a deep rustic shade. Tan coloured head of middling size. Minimal lacing. Toasted grainy aroma, slightly roasted. Roasted mid-sweet malty taste, hints of dark caramel and liquorice. Dark fruity touch to the finish. Rather easy to drink. Pleasing porter (Tårnrommet session, beer no. 299, Tromsø 09.01.2014).

50cl bottle at Valmiermui?a alus tirgotava, Riga. Pours dark brown with a fairly small beige head. Dark and malty aroma with dark chocolate and dark fruits with hints of caramel and some roasty notes. Medium sweet with nice malty flavours and a light bitterness. Smooth and well balanced. Nice one!

330ml tap@Valmiermuiza alus tirgotava, with Stefan. Brown body with beige layer on top. Dried fruit, apple, figs and dates. Rather weak aroma on these Valmiermuiza brews. Tastes a hit better than it smells, roasted coffee, charcoal, dates, burnt bread crust. Too carbonated! Leather finish.

330ml @Valmiermuiza bar, Riga, with Stefan. Slightly hazy golden amber body, with tiny head. Fresh hoppy aroma, with hint of cheese, pine and citrus. Herbs are added in taste, some pine and grass, kind of astringent finish and rather carbonated. Lingering! Okay, but after the Ziemas it did not feel like an easy drink.

Aroma: caramel and sweetness. Pours dark red-brown, nice white head. Head never really disappear. Medium carbonation. Taste: burnt sugar is really dominating here, very sweet, some caramel bitterness and hints of sourness. Overall: looks really great and smells good. I think it’s little bit out of balance, burnt sugar is just dominating over everything else. It’s also just little too sweet for my taste.

500ml bottle from Riga. Cherry coloured body and intricate lacing. Sweet prunes, cookies, chocolate, dates, prunes. raspberries and roasted nuts with a caramel finish. Just a tad too sweet, maybe. Shared with Rune, Stefan and Jan Erik 22.03.12 at our From Lativia with Alus Session
