The origin of the brewery go back to 1968 when Henninger Hellas company, the local Greek distributor of the German Henninger beer, was founded. In 1994 it was renamed as Northern Greece Brewery. In 1997 Mythos Beer was introduced, and in 2001 the company renamed itself as the Mythos Brewery S.A. Since 2008 it has been a subsidiary of Carlsberg Group. In 2014 a restructured Olympic Brewery was established after the merger of Mythos and Olympic.

Slightly hazy pale golden color with a medium creamy white head. Sweet aroma of grain and grass. Sweet flavor with some light bittering and a grassy end.

11.2 oz. bottle at Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove. Big oxydized hop smell upon opening. Pours thin straw color with at least an attractive rocky head. Surprisingly, the biggest impression I taste is the hop bitters. Not much beyond a basic Noble palate, but nice to find in yet another country’s Heineken wannabe. Makes the malts hard to pick up, but if there’s corn, at least I’m not getting it. Slight fruity/citrus, with a bit of harsh alcohol and a Dortmunder in the family tree. For 75¢ in the loose bottle rack, a nice find.

Bottle: Poured a light yellow color lager with a nice foamy white head with better retention then expected. Aroma of skunk is not very surprising considering the green bottle and the distance it traveled. Very little hops are present in this beer with some limited sweet malt. Body is thin with a very watery mouthfeel.

Rating added 1/29/2006Not a very good beer during the winter in Sweden. But I can remember when drinking it in summertime in Greece it was acceptable. So of course the time and place matters. Very light and with little taste.3/2/3/2/6=1.6

Bottle. Not that bad of a drink. Poured much like regular old beer. A little dry, but the finish is actually quite nice. Drink this with some nice greek food and you’ll be set.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pilsener golden with a rather neat and lively head. Distinct malty sweetness and decently bodied. Bitterness is very subdued bordering non-existent. An OK lager, but as with most exotic lagers they work best under a blue, blue sky. 301005
