Bottle 33 cl. 8,0% in my version, and nothing but lactose added, so not sure why it's listed as a Pastry Stout. Rather an Imperial Milk Stout. Pours a deep, dark brown with an orange hue and a tiny, beige head. Smoky, roasty nose with a buttery touch. Rich, sweet body, chocolate and faint, peaty roast - almost cloyingly sweet. Lacks balance. 240123

Fles 17/24 uit de Beer in a Box adventskalender, thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV, Inoven en HilligvG. Het is een licht troebel goudgeel bier met een volle witte schuimkraag. Het heeft een aroma van hop. De smaak is vol fruitig, zacht zoet en hoppig met een licht harsige afdronk.

Flesje gedeeld door Tomhendriksen. Goudgeel helder bier met matig schuim dat snel weg trekt. Aroma is hoppig. Smaak is eveneens hoppig. Nasmaak is iets bitter en blijft lekker hangen.

Frisian amber beer, oddly encountered in De Kleine Kunst, a café in the Ghent Heirnis quarter (located next to the Stroom brewery) – but I suppose the new owners of this café being Dutch, has something to do with it. Frothy, egg-white, creamy and moussy, stable head, warm and deep pure orange-amber robe, as good as clear. Aroma of wet toast, roasted peanuts, clear iron (confirmed by the ‘hand test’), dried thyme, tea, autumn leaves, dried orange peel, apricot kernels, fried tomato, hard caramel, candied peach, Graham crackers. Sweet, candied apricot in the onset, even a touch of candied cherry, quite sharply carbonated; rounded and bit ‘glueish’ mouthfeel. Caramelly and lightly peanutty malts with a lovely, refined toasty edge, but also something bubblegummy and then of course that metallic aspect; quite a lot of residual sweetness as well. Tea-like herbal hops in the end offer only mild ‘counterbitterness’, but admittedly match well with that softly toasty character of the malts; still, due to the bitterness underachieving, the finish feels a bit thin. Smooth, easygoing quencher with a pretty malt character, subsequently marred by the addition of iron for head stabilization (I suppose) and too much sweetness. I am a bit ‘in dubio’ here, this beer has good and less good qualities, so let’s give it the benefit of the doubt.

Fles thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een helder diep donkerbruin bier met een volle beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van gebrande mout en chocolade. De smaak is zoetig, chocolade koffie en drop achtig.

Tap at Arendsnest, 3rd November 22. Pours a dark brown. Aroma is smoke, peak, iodine. Taste is smoky, meaty, malts, peat, pretty good depth, nice beer

330ml bottle. Stingy boozy and slightly hoppy with hints of spices and caramel, a bit unbalanced

(Bottle, 0.33 l, thanks VastActiv, at Arde, 20221021) The beer poured pale amber and lightly hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had honey, grass and floralness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, honey, malts, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste had honey, grass and bitterness. A nice hoppy tripel.

33cl bottle. Thx VastActiv. Poured slightly unclear golden. Slightly boozy, marzipan, caramel, sweetness. Some spiciness.
