Description
Griffin Claw Brewing Company’s official opening day may be July 18th, 2013 but it all started when Dan Rogers began working his magic at Big Rock Chophouse in Birmingham, MI. Dan had been brewing since 1991 and eventually found his way to Big Rock in 2004, this is the unofficial start of Griffin Claw. Dan continued hammering out amazing beers in the small confines of Big Rock and the Michigan beer community started taking notice. It wasn’t until 2010 that his name and beers received a lot more attention. 2010 was a big year, winning two World Beer Cup medals for Norm’s Raggedy Ass and Bonnie’s Raggedy Ass.

Griffin Claw’s culture is that of growth. Our path to get where we are has been a quick one but it’s because of our people. We are centered around young, hungry, active beer enthusiasts – with a foundation of grizzled vets. Our love for this Great Beer State is increased as the days go on and we love the industry that we’re in.

Dark brown pour with some red hue shining through. Some beige bubbles on the top. Sweet chocolate nose, soft, dark fruits like ripe plums and maybe figs there. Taste is also sweet, high abv but soft and creamy. Booze coming out with a bit of spicy bourbon kick. Pretty awesome, finish has some more plain booze and lingering herbal bitterness. Pretty nice.

Level 6 bottleshare. Thanks to Cloin for the can. Semi opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate, decent fine carbonation. Smooth but thin dark malts, bitter dark chocolate. Tangy dark fruits. Bitterish finish. Not bad but a bit thin and bitterish.

Pitch black colour. Dense light beige head with good lacing. Aroma's of heavy roasted malts, ground coffee, hazelnut, sweetness, vanilla and bourbon. Retronasal it's notably ground coffee, with sweetness and light bourbon. Flavour is moderate sweet with roasty bitterness. Alcohol feel is mild but there is some heat. Medium to full bodied. Finishes roasted, above moderate bitter. Quite light on the bourbon and hazelnut, and heavy on the coffee. Very tasty anyway.

Creamy light brown coloured head left a froth on a near black stil body. Roasted, malt & caramel aroma. Medium bodied, sharp on the front with a clean dry finish. Malt, lactose, dark sugar, chocolate & nutty tastes.

Can shared at Kingsday Tasting 2019. Clear amber-brown color, average sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, milk chocolate, cocos? Not sure but there is something in there I don't like. Mwah. 6-3-6-3-13.

Interesting. Ton of bourbon, coffee and hazelnut. Appears to be something pretending to be chilli heat in it, probably sharpness from the bourbon and pepperishness from the coffee. Smooth, thick, rich.. but a tiny bit out of balance. However, it's yummy.

44 cl can vintage 2018 @ olio
Aroma is a total mocha coffee overdose. Flavour has mocha, alcohol, whiskey and coffee. Also some medicine-like tones. Nice stuff.

65 cl bottle vintage 2017@ olio Aroma has bourbon and and quite nothing else. Flavour has quite strong bourbon tones, vanilla and woody tones. One bourbon juice. Hides the ABV really well; I thought this was 8-9%.
