Description
The brewery was founded by Phil and Cynthia “Scuttle” Bannan in 1996 with a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales and lagers.
After more than 20 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.
Since the beginning Scuttlebutt beers have been brewed in Everett with the Northwest’s finest ingredients – barley from Vancouver, Washington, hops from the Yakima Valley, a proprietary yeast from Odell, Oregon and some of the nation’s finest drinking water from the Spada Reservoir in the Cascade Mountains. Our beers are clean, balanced and have been brewed with care for over 17 years.

12oz bottle pours with a clear copper body that supports a weak white head. The aroma is a mix of sweet malts, floral hops, orange peel and some pine like hoppiness. The taste has plenty of hop bitterness mixing with a modest degree of hop flavor coming from pine, floral, citrus and tropical fruit like hoppiness. Behind the hops is an adequate malt sweetness that is creating a pretty nice body for this beer. It seems the hop profile is going in all directions and pulling itself apart to a certain extent. Plenty of hops here though.

Bottle. Cloudy orange with white head. Light citrus hop aroma. Flavour is much citrusy hop not all that bitter but with a sweet naartjie note. Long hop finish. Does not taste all that strong, but is.

On tap. A quite clear one, golden-orange, and topped by an off-white head leaving lacings. Hop-driven aroma with pale malts in the back. Some caramel, borderline toffee, notes. Pine cones and citrus peel. The flavor is pretty much the same, with the added joy of bitterness. Some malty sweetness. Medium to full body, pleasant carbonation level. Bitter and fruity finish, peaches, pine cones and some grassy notes. Well, except that it’s a tad on the malty side, it’s a fine brew. 130702

Bottle, 22oz. A lightly hazy beer, amber in color and topped by a small, dense, off-white to light beige head. Quite hoppy aroma, piney and citrusy, with caramel maltyness in the back. Some bitterness in the flavor, but not too much, balancing the caramel maltyness quite good. Full body with pleasant carbonation. Citrus peel and some tropical fruit notes in the else bitter and caramel malty finish. Sure a tasteful one, drinks easy, but it’s a bit too malty on a summer day this hot. 130630

Bottle, 2009 vintage, thanks to 5000. Pours a flat, medium-grade leather color with a small beige head that dissapears rather quickly. Inviting aroma is fruity, faded citrus hops, caramel, raisons, and a very light amount of smoke. There is a layering of flavors, from fruity and toffee sweet, to light smoke and earthy. It has a bit of cocoa and roasty/earthy/leathery vibe that reminds me of Adam... a big compliment. It’s hard to think of this as past it’s prime, which it probably is, but it drank very well with four years on it. A solid offering that I would love to try again.

Draught at CBB. Deep orange to light amber color with a low head. Clear. Tinny, citrus nose, some grass. Light malt flavor, honey, stone fruits, sweet orange. Rather sweet but a nice bitter, peppery finish. Refreshing and drinkable, though not so exciting.

At the Craft Beer Base IPA event. It poured a nice clear golden color with a thick fluffy head. It had a mild aroma and a nice malty base. The flavor was sweet & spicy and it was well-balanced. Very good sessionable IPA!
