Description
The brewery was founded by Phil and Cynthia “Scuttle” Bannan in 1996 with a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales and lagers.
After more than 20 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.

Since the beginning Scuttlebutt beers have been brewed in Everett with the Northwest’s finest ingredients – barley from Vancouver, Washington, hops from the Yakima Valley, a proprietary yeast from Odell, Oregon and some of the nation’s finest drinking water from the Spada Reservoir in the Cascade Mountains. Our beers are clean, balanced and have been brewed with care for over 17 years.

Hazy blonde colour. Slight footy, musty yeast aroma. On the palate, though, it’s hugely spicy, with loads of cinnamon. Totally unbalanced, overloaded with powdered spices.

Draught at BPP: Cloudy copper-amber colour. Big piney, slighlty zesty hop character. Very bitter, like chewing on hops. Piney, with woody back notes. Not much balance here and the hops aren’t especially bright - I’d like a fruitier, livelier mix.

Draught Huge, nearly more head than beer; hazy chestnut coloured. Hoppy, with grape(fruit) properties, and faint licorice. Hoppy, cakey taste, coloured malts underneath, some caramelised apples or peaches. WAY TOO MUCH nitro: "smooth" in the worst way, thank God for the hops breaking through. Yeah, it exists, and that’s good; choice is important.

Chestnut, clear; no real head. Cherry-like alcohol nose, alcohol and fusels. Very malty taste with higher alcohols. Surprisingly rich & aromatic character for some moments. Aggressive alcoholic & burning malts MF, slick, viscous nearly. This is all fireworks: it sparkles, thunders and shouts, but then it’s a black empty sky again. The palate is good enough, but it wants to impose too much.

Slightly murky nut brown. Chocolatey aroma with faint hints of coffee and alcohol. Mocha, spice and wheat show in the body, which is fairly light. Clean and lively, like a schwarzbier. Malty accent, mildly sweet but silky. Not sure about the wheat aspect, but it’s a distinctive brew.

On Tap at Scuttlebutt Cloudy light amber/yellow. Soft creamy white head and wispy lacing. I loved the soft smoth of this one. Pale malt flavors and very low on the hops. Lacking the German hef fruity yeastiness.

On Tap at Scuttlebutt Slightly hazy very pale yellow. Dense white head and excellent lacing. Lively carbonation. Light slightly wheaty malt flavors and easy on the hops to match the whimpy malt flavor.

On Tap at Scuttlebutt Very dark brown with a nice cremy long lasting head and nice sheeting lacing. Fairly thin feel but a nice dark roasted malt flavor. Carbonated a bit more than I expected and a nice charcoal bitter trailer.
