Description
Modern Times is a 30bbl production brewery and tasting room in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. Modern Times is named after a beautifully crazy utopian community founded in 1850 (see “Modern Times was..” for the full explanation), and (almost) all of our beers are named after real utopian experiments or mythological utopias.

Can @ Armin’s house, courtesy of bacterial. Pours a pretty clear golden appearance with a white head. Pretty dank/spicy hoppy, quite herbal, grapefruity aroma. Fairly dry, tropical fruity, onion, guava, pineapple flavor. Nice beer.

16 oz can picked from their assorted 4 pack picked up for me when furiousdman was in San Diego. Nose is a tropical forest; floral, mango, pine, and tangerine; all that was missing was some banana (wheat ale?).clear orange gold with a medium white head. Flavor is pretty bitter and lightly nutty. Smells pretty goood but flavor is almost all bitterness.

Draft at Pacific Beach Fish Shop - San Diego, CA. An awesome hoppy wheat beer. Loaded with citrus and lightly pissy hops. Great balance. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Great balance to finish, moderate pale wheat sweetness with plenty of juicy hops. Super drinkable.

Bottle shared by Sean, thanks! Pours a hazy pale amber with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a dank pine note with an underlying grass and sweet grain note. Flavor has notes of pine and onion up front with a bit of earthy grain backing.

Can from Bine & Vine. Pours very dark brown with a fizzy/creamy tan head. Aroma is sort of chocolate coffee. Not exactly any coffee drink I’ve had, but chocolate coffee. Definitely not mocha. Near full bodied. Flavor is dark malt, lots of espresso, and finishing with sweet dark chocolate - tho not a whole lot of it. Finishes fairly coffee, and fairly bitter. Good drink.

Can from Bine & Vine. Pours gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is a little yeast/fruit ester. Hard to find funk. Med body or better. Well, now there is a little funk in the flavor, and some biting spice. And fruity esters. Somehow it seems a bit too clean, but all the flavors seem to be appropriate. Certainly drinkable.

Can from Bine & Vine. Pours translucent gold with a slight white head. Mixed fruit aroma. Lots of fruit. Med body more or less. There’ tropical fruit and citrus. I can believe mango. I thing there’s some barley, but whether or not, I think it would have been better as a non-wheat. I just don’t think wheat supports the flavors. Pretty hoppy beer tho. Finishes hoppy and well towards dry.

Can at Charlie’s place in Encinitas. Pours clear yellow with a foamy white head. Doughy wheat in the nose, some lemony tang. Light sweet flavor with further doughy wheat bread, some straw, citrus rind. Light bidied with average carbonation. Balanced finish, somewhat crisp, with wheat and cereal, bitter hay, faint grass. Nice.
