Description
The Rothaus Brewery was founded 1791 through the Benedictine monastery St. Blasien in the “Zum Rothen Haus” inn (“To the Red House” in English). Following the secularizations of 1806, the Rothaus Brewery fell out of the hands of the monks and became property of the Grand Duchy of Baden and was renamed the “Großherzogliche Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus” (Grand Ducal State Brewery Rothaus of Baden). The November Revolution of 1918, which led to the abolition of the monarchy in Baden, caused the company to shorten their name to Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus (State-owned brewery of Baden), as from then on the brewery was owned by the federal state of Baden.
Since 1922, the company has had the legal form of a stock corporation, the shares of which are currently held entirely by the associated company of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The continuously large demand for Rothaus beer has in the past made large investments necessary. This allowed the Rothaus Brewery to grow into one of the most modern facilities in Germany.

0.33 l bottle from 'EDEKA Schwörer' (Endingen), best before February 2026. Hazy, pale straw yellow with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, rather fruity and a little artificial aroma of lime, lemon and lemonade. Quite sweet, minimally sourish, moderately bitter, quite fruity and a bit artificial taste of lime, lemon, lemonade and light grains, followed by a short, moderately bitter, minimally tartish finish. Thin to medium body, minimally astringent and quite effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Way too sweet, other than that quite okay.

In my opinion, it is a decent keller bier, close to the brauweisse of Aynger. It is a bit spakling, creamy, malt, hop, refreshing, 11.03.17

Bottle picked up from a getrankemarkte in Gunzburg and consumed at home Tuesday 23rd September 2025. Pours clear gold slim/mid sized white head, aroma ok but seems like a little stale beer note coming through, it isn’t btw, taste is fresh and with the usual non alcohol traits, it’s ok, taste lingers and it’s a little metallic.
