Description
BridgePort produces a variety of international style ales, including IPA. BridgePort’s ales are naturally conditioned in the bottle, keg, or cask from which they are served - they’re never force carbonated. The natural conditioning creates ale that is smooth, naturally carbonated, and full of flavor.

Today, BridgePort Brewing Company is one of the top specialty brewers in the state of Oregon. As BridgePort Brewing grew in popularity, it also grew in its brewing capacity from its 600-barrel beginnings to over 100,000 barrels per year. Distribution has grown from Portland to 18 states, and the brewery’s emphasis on producing quality, innovative ales has provided it with an international following and numerous awards.

Bomber from Safeway. Aroma is dark fruit, chalky candy, kind of lackluster. Pours hazy ruby red with a thin collar of off-white foam. Taste is lightly tart (2/10), sweet, finishes dry. Tastes like melted popsicles. There's a light seedy berry note. It goes down easy and it's not bad tasting, but it's very one-note and simplistic. Nothing like a real Sour Red/Brown. Should be in the fruit beer category.

Tap at the Great Northern Hotel, Melbourne. Poured a hazy medium brown with a frothy white head. The aroma is toffee apple caramel malt, sweet woody hop. The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter with a dry malt, sweet toffee, dry spice, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a lingering bitter finish. I really wanted to like this and I did to a degree, but it’s all about the toffee and big dry woody hops.

12 oz bottle into a La Chouffe stemmed tulip glass at my daughters in California on 3rd Jan 2017. Red body, slight haze, beige head of uneven foaming bubbles. Malty nose and taste profile, some rye flavours and esters too. Taste also has plenty of hop bitterness battling with semi-sweet maltiness. Nice winter time brew.

On tap at The Cheerful Tortoise, Portland, Oregon. Has a hazy dark amber colour with an off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, grass, caramel, pine and subtle diacetyl. Flavour of grass, weeds, pine and spicy hops. Has a slick mouth feel, medium bitterness and medium to heavy bitterness. Pretty hoppy and a little unbalanced. Decent though.

Six pack from a grocery store. Pours a reddish amber color with a medium white head. A big sticky sweet nose. Bready, big caramel, toast, sticky sweet citrus. Very much a 1990s IPA and not a great one. Some higher alcohols present, not very smooth. OK. I wish Bridgeport was making better beer, but this is an example that they often are not. The IIPA market is flooded and there are tons of great ones. This is malty, lots of caramel and big bitterness. OK beer.

Bottle from WinCo. Dark hazy golden body with small creamy head . Robust bready, malty aroma, some citrus. Taste is more malt, sourdough bread, orange peel. And then it tails off, not with a bang, but a whimper..

Draft pour at Cooper's Alehouse, Seattle. A slight haze, golden pour. Juicy orange fruit, apple, melon aroma. Flavor has a melon, grassy hop front, with a lingering unique orange soda reminder. Strange, but not bad. Apple comes through in flavor. Late, slightly sweet grain. Interesting beer here.

Bomber. Pours a pitch black hue with a medium dark brown head. A big licorice and roast nose. A smooth flavor, some heavy roast, sweet licorice and vanilla, a bit of astringent metallic notes which I like. Some citrus in the finish. Very nice.
