Description
We are a family-owned, independent craft brewery with taproom and full-service BBQ eatery located in Monroe, Ohio. At Rivertown, we believe in brewing traditional and innovative craft beer and slow-smoking BBQ in a way that encourages connection, and conversation.
We aren't defined by one style of beer, because at our brewery, we brew a touch of everything from traditional, technically-sound, delicate lagers to spontaneously fermented and intentionally blended barrel-aged sours and every style in between. When it comes to our BBQ, we draw inspiration from many different styles, including St. Louis, Texas, the Carolinas, but most importantly, our juicy, slow-smoked BBQ is inspired by our Team's creativity and you.
Rivers have always been the heart of community, innovation and activity; come enjoy our interpretation of a Rivertown, where tradition, innovation and flavor is blended with community, caring and tenacity to create a noteworthy and memorable experience.

2011 bottle. Tart lactic lemon, musty funky, woody aroma. Hazy gold with a small white head. Tart lactic lemon, funky musty, woody flavor smoothed out with a hint of sweetness. The lactic element seems to transition more towards acetic as it warms. Light, slightly watery body, lively carbonation, dry finish,

Bottle. Vinegar, white grape, and apple aroma. Hazy golden yellow with minimal head. Sweet-tart white grape, lemon, and vinegar flavor. Very smooth. Not nearly as sour as its Belgian counterparts but pretty nice.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with a small tan head and decent lacing. Aroma is coffee, dark roasted malts, and grain. Flavor is overtly chocolate with notes of vanilla and tobacco and a light astringence that grows with drinking. Medium sweet, lightly bitter. I started out liking this one, ended up dumping the last third or so, but for some reason still want to rate it fairly well.

Sample during the Armageddon tasting at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 12/20/2012. The beer pours a dark reddish-amber color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Sour fruit and yeast in the nose. Light body with a metallic character and notes of funky fruit and earth. The finish is cloyingly sour and metallic. Not good.

Sample during the Armageddon tasting at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 12/20/2012. The beer is a dark brownish-red color with a medium thin off-white head that dissipates steadily. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast and roasted malt. Light-bodied with flavors of biscuit malt, fruity yeast and a bit of spice. The finish is sweet with a berry and banana aftertaste. Decent overall.

Very dark with a light brown head. Aroma is medium roasted malts, cocoa, malty, and an odd chemical aroma. My initial thought was that it smelled like roasted malt and photography developing chemicals. So weird. Medium to full body. Flavor thankfully lacks the chemicals from the aroma. Roasted malts, wheat, faint dark fruits, berries. A bit tangy. Very odd from start to finish but glad I gave it a try.

Bottle. Sour apple and vinegar aroma. Slightly hazy golden yellow with no head. Tart apple, vinegar, and malt flavor. Nice body. Tasty. May not be from the Senne Valley, but the Ohio Valley did a pretty nice job on this one.

12oz bottle scooped up in Columbus..so clearly no longer on draft only. Pours a deep brown-black, with a big respectable beige head. Amped up coffee and vanilla tones, this is sort of like a more drinkable Southern Tier offering. Big, but not overbearing, retains some nice porter qualities. Sweet, but enough balance in depth in all the adjuncts to make it work. Coffee Stout fans should be all over this. Well done.

Bottle.Tart lemon and lactic, funky musty barnyard brett aroma. Hazy gold with no head. Tart lemony lactic, light wood, and musty barnyard flavor with a moderately dry tannic finish. Moderately acidic, but not mouth puckering. Medium body, very soft carbonation, dry finish. Very enjoyable.
