Keg at The Stockbridge Tap. Black body with a dense beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of blackberries, cocoa powder and charcoal. Flavour of dark chocolate, lime and brambles. Medium body with a slick, slightly sticky mouthfeel. Light fizz. A well made, moreish Black IPA - and my first Black IPA rate in ages. My favourite Cross Borders beer so far.

Cask handpull at Bow Bar Edinburgh. Clear chestnut brown colour lasting beige head. Malty soft easy drinking biscuit dry on finish. Likeable sweet then dry . Good. Residual sweetness.

Cask handpull at Montys Edinburgh. Black beer lasting tan head. Hoppy lime aroma. Chocolate lime typical black ipa all mouth and trousers. Can live without it empty .

Can. Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma is fresh juicy, peach, orange, grapefruit, a bit biscuity. Taste is marmalade, peach, grapefruit, biscuity malts. Juicy mouthfeel. Nice! 7-4-7-4-15 Cask. Rather clear golden color with white head. Aroma is tropical fruits, gummy bears, light petrol. Taste is gummy bears, pale malts, a touch biscuits. Oily mouthfeel, low carbonation. Good one! 7-3-7-4-15

Bomber from Bridgend Services. It pours clear gold with a small white head. The aroma is fresh, fragrant, floral, plenty of rose character, bit spice, parma violets and cereal. The taste is crisp, dry, fragrant, very floral, rose, honeyed cereal, peppery spice, straw and wet grass with a drying finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. A rather floral saison. Decent.

Handpull cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Dark brown with a ring of khaki head. Mild but tempting aroma of black coffee with some plummy notes. Taste is different from what I was expecting. There’s a stone fruit sourish sweetness tempered by a tangy hop bitterness. Slightly vinous in the finish, with sour plum in the aftertaste. It’s a bit messy in my opinion but there’s good material here. A cautious thumbs up.

Third of a cask pint at the Scottish Real Ale Festival in Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange on 7th July 2017. Red hue to the grubby brown body, cream coloured head. A lot more malts than hops in the aroma and taste, hops add a little balance and bitterness but are overshaddowed by the maltiness throughout.
