Tap at Bungalow. Said to be made with Idaho 7 hops. Amber-orange color, clear. Nose is citrus, bread, resins. Flavor is resiny citrus, bready and light caramel. Interesting hops. Nice enough, a bit old school. Crisp body.

Draft at iBrew original, Tokyo. Black with a tan head. Aroma of dark malt, chocolate and caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Tastes like a smoother, more interesting version of Japanese schwarzbiers. Japan has much better stouts, though.

Draft at Craftheads in Tokyo, Japan. Clear golden amber, off-white head. Smell-malt, floral. Taste-malt, grapefruit citrus, floral, pine. Medium body, dry. This rating not sponsored by ZX Ventures or AB Inbev.

Tap at Hacchio. Aged for 1 year in barrel, then 4 years in the keg. Nose is licorice, coffee, dark chocolate. Not much barrel or whiskey. Flavor is creamy and chocolaty, cafe au lait, rich deep malts. Not much whiskey left. Rich nice flavor after a slightly disappointing nose. Too cold, but soft carbonation with decent. Probably past its prime but nice.

Hand pump at Hacchio. Said to be aged for a year on smoked chips of cherry wood. Hazy amber with lace. Rich caramel nose, treacle, light smoke, resins. Sweet and dessert-like, spicy more than smoky, with cinnamon notes. Raisins, pine resin, fruit cake. Rich and smooth and comes off a bit like an English BW.

No head. Very pale golden color. Certainly doesn’t look appealing. Bizzare, but somehow enjoyable, nose of salty tropical fruit with crackery malt and underlying tartness. I really like the nose nose. The palate however leaves a bit more to be desired. Low hops, the fruitiness and salt are there but highly subdued. As it warms bitterness pokes it’s head through a bit more, but still doesn’t change the score. A bit of peach and saltiness in the finish. It starts great and finishes ok which means it’s just ok.
