Tap at Takumiya. Deep orange, hazy, with a fine head. Lemony nose, toasted rice crackers (senbei). Nice lemony flavor, very interesting malt / grain character with lots of toast and senbei, peaches, lovely graininess and good hop. Very unique rice beer. This is a winner.

330ml bottle from Yamaoke, Kyoto. Pours dark reddish orange with a large foamy head. Aroma of strawberries, earthy notes, caramely malts, toffee, pine and resin. Taste is sweet, earthy and stuffy with loads of strawberries, some toffee, pine, caramel and resin. Finish is sweet, sticky and syrupy with some strawberires, caramely malts, bitter grassy hops and herbal notes. Unbalanced, too much strawberry notes here.

Tap at Yellow Ape. Hazy gold. Nice fruity aroma, grapefruit, light tropical, catpiss. Nice lager base with hops probably a but more integrated by now, citrus, piss, tropical fruit, light resin. Crackery, dry finish. Nice.

Tap at Ibaraki Bakuon shared by my buddy David. Big coffee with an almost vegetal Tougarashi pepper character as well. A solid golden coffee brew.

Tap @ BeerFes Yokohama, September 17th, 2017. Pours nice dark brown, bit of beige foam. Not very carbonated. Lots of roast malts and coffee in the nose, liqurice and soy. Lots of umami. Light vanilla in the nose goes few degrees up in taste, roast bitterness, some bitter chocolate and coffee. Spicy and booze well hidden. Feels light and drinkable. Chocolate in steroids, nice. One of the best imperial BA stouts from Japan, world class.

Tap at Molto. Wakayama beni hassaku used. Deep golden color with light haze, low thick head. Hassaku citrus nose, bit of biscuit and caramel, hops too. More peel in the mouth, good solid malt, bit too much fruit for me but nice enough.

Tap at Ape. Not exactly sure how this is made, but I think it is sake infused with plums that is then blended with Minoh Pale Ale. Nice ume nose, slightly sugary though. Very cloudy orange-brown. Flavor of ume, harsh funk, some citrus. Funky peaches. The finish is far too rough but otherwise interesting. Needs some refinement.

Tap at Minoh’s clusterfuck of an Anniversary Event in the heat and sun with no shade and just one booth to serve a few thousand people beer. Just WTF? I wasn’t gonna order this but wound up in line for it due to the fact lines were unmarked and might actually change what you’ve lined up for while in them! Cloudy light gold with a filmy head that lingers like a protective layer over the surface of the beer. It has a lactic toe jam aroma. Light bodied with sour baby sick tangy lemon notes, cardboard and light malts. Not worth the long wait in line.
