Draught at Craft Beer Bar, Yokohama. Nut brown, small head. Aroma of dusty caramel. Fairly sweet with light body, Sloppy caramel barely covered by dusty hops. Almost thin bodied and with low bitterness. Primitive like a macro bitter.

Bottled at pre-RBJG festivities in Kyoto. Black as night, rich beige head. Chocolaty salty nose. Dryish with dense full body. Lots of tobacco and salty licorice, like a dough made up from salmiak. Lingering salty bitterness. Contains all you can ask for in a well made Imperial Stout.

Draught at Eni-bru, Osaka. Transparently black, small head. Chocolatey and mild. Sweetish anr rounded, light roasty flavours with notes of burnt chocolate. Finishes with low-medium bitterness. A well made stout on the milder side.

Draught at McGloughlin’s. Glowing yellow color. Cloudy with a fine head. Lovely. Smoke character dominates the aroma, though not strong. Also wheat malt, bananas and clove. Light smoke flavor, with good wheat malt, bananas and cloves. On the sweet side. Very nicely done.

Draught at Beer Belly. Aroma: very fruity, with coriander and wheat. Cloudy, undistinguished color. Decent wheat malt flavor, with banana, clove, citrus. Not great malt, but nicely balanced. Light body. Refreshing. The yuzu flavor really comes through nicely.

Deep copper/amber with a small white head. Heavy hop aroma, malty, vinegar, and caramel. Flavor is rather bitter. Herbal hops, light citrus, and caramel malts. Full bodied. I don’t like the vinegar in the aroma, but it tastes fine and is a decent IIPA.

Tap at Thrash Zone. Dry hopped at the brewery with centennial hops. Strong hop presence in the aroma, molasses, some herbal, and burnt sugars. Strong hops in the flavor as well, sweet malty molasses, bitter hops, herbal notes finish it up. Fairly thick body. Though this is a good brew I found the combination of the flavors a little annoying at the end of the pint. Still, I’d order it again.

Med amber color. Apricots and caramel in the nose. Light bodied, somewhat malty mouth, definitely British accented. However, finish isn’t bitter enough. Nice mouth feel, but otherwise fairly forgettable - not unlikely numerous British bitters.

Golden color with frothy white head. Nose is very hoppy and true to the Czech style, however, I found the body had a bit of diacytle, which I have tasted previously and think it is intentionally a part of the beer, but I didn’t like that. Still the hop profile is solid and nice lingering bitter finish. Potential to be great, but isn’t what I want.

Real ale at Beer Belly. This is a spiced version of their Imperial Stout, with cinnamon, cloves, coriander, and sansho. Big spicy nose, slightly fruity and burnt. flavors of coffee, chocolate and burnt malts along with the spice. Very properly spiced: you definitely taste it, but it is not overwhelming. Rather thin body, though, and not quite Imperial in size. The beer itself seems young and does not compare to its cask aged version. A very nice Christmas beer, though.

A hazy golden color with a nice white head. Malty bread aroma with light, crisp hops in back. Flavor is heavy on the malts, light on the hops. Pretty full bodied for the style. Not a bad pils, but I prefer more hops in my pilsners. (Draught at McLoughlin’s)
