A surprisingly complex beer at the top of its style. Aromas of chocolate and coffee, some smoke, and teriyaki, and port.. Black with a large tan head. Multi dimensional flavor, smokey peat,, port. Heavy palate but easy to drink.

Pour is black with a small tan head. Wow! Nice burnt roasty aroma. Flavor is a bitter burnt with a strong coffee aftertaste. A pleasing brew for all the senses.

(Bottle 50 cl) Called "Molings Traditional Celtic Beer" in my version. Mahogany in colour with a reddish tint and a rather stable, light brown head. Sweetish and malty with notes of caramel and smoke. Very pleasant Irish ale. 200304

(Bottle 50 cl) Orangey golden, slightly hazy with a fine, creamy but rather small head. Hasn’t got the fruity esters as in German and Belgian wheats. In fact this beer has incredibly little flavour. Soft wheaty notes but neither aroma, nor palate. No bitterness either. Not unpleasant just thin, thin, thin... 160103

(Bottle 50 cl) Pitch black with a rocky head which is amazingly stable. Very dry and burned with a pronounced bitterness. Nice and different stout. 260202

Bottle. Malty, roasted aroma. Almost black colour, red hue. Creamy light brown head. Slightly malty, roasted flavour with some bitterness and CO2 bite. Aftertaste is bitter with some harshness. Hint of chocolate. 6 3 5 3 11
Cask at GBBF08. Weak roasted aroma. Clear very dark brown colour. Good roasted flavour, turns a little malty and then roasted again. Light body, but OK flavour. 6 3 6 3 17

Bottled, had it as Carlow Molings Traditional Red Ale. Reddish brown colour. Hoppy aroma, with hints of fruits. Very fruity and fresh taste. Smells more than it tastes though. Pretty much carbonation.

Tapped. Very dark brown or black opaque with brown foamy head. Not much aroma, just a bit roasted malt and a bit "soapy". Taste consists of smokey, roasted malt. Smoky aftertaste.

Deep translucent red body, thin/medium clumping tan head. Strong roasted malt aroma. Somewhat tangy body, dominated by woody, roasty malts and a touch of earthy hops. Bitter, acidic finish. Tight carbonation for a stout. This is average across-the-board.

Clear deep copper red body, big puffy light cream head. Metallic, earthy, hoppy nose with rough grain notes hiding in the background. Very dry body, mostly earthy hops, toasty and without much caramel or fruit development that I expect from the style. A couple more sips and it’s apparent that there really isn’t much flavor at all. Ugh. A waste of money.
