After 700 years, the Aktienbrauerei is the last representative of the Kaufbeurer brewing tradition that started in 1308 under the name "Zur Goldenen Traube". The brewery has been owned by the Walch family since 1799. At its current location, the beer cellar was built in 1807, and the company was converted into a stock corporation in 1885. This made the Kaufbeuren stock brewery one of the first stock companies in Bavaria. In the second half of the 19th century, the brewery was the most important brewery in the city.

(Bottle, 0.5 l - BB 25.11.2021, from a supermarket, 20210302) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized, white and it lasted long. Aroma had grass, metal, grain and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, grain, metal, malts, lightly sweetness and medium bitterness. Aftertaste was grassy, malty and bitter. A pleasant brew with notes of grass, malts and sweetness.

330ml bottle delivered from the Salmon, Leicester and drunk at home. Brownish gold, clear with a small ring of white head. Malty and slightly metallic aroma, with notes of tamarind. Sweet malty taste with a slightly tangy bitterness in the finish. Nutty and somewhat medicinal aftertaste. A mixed bag overall, and quite basic, but fairly typical for the style.

Bottle from Beer52. Drunk this with sushi on Chinese New Year - not sure why we chose that combo! Chestnut coloured with a thin beige head. Flavour is full of sweet malty malt with rye bread, chocolate, dark brown sugar and a hint of wood and brazil nuts. Overall it's just yummy malty goodness - wish there were more malty beers around. Oh - and it went surprisingly well with the sushi!
