Bottle: Poured a light beige color ale with a huge foamy head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of funky yeast with some nice spices and light ester. Taste is also dominated by some sweet fruit notes as well as some spices and the funky yeast. Average body with great carbonation. I thought it was a bit too sweet for my own palate but still enjoyable overall. Re-rate 2008 (fresh bottle 2007): Enjoyable saison with some fruity ester but lightly hops and still a bit too sweet. I still have a hard time understanding the big fuss over this one.

Nice packaging; interesting label. The beer is orange. Aroma has light spices, almost a yeasty, barnyard weirdness but not quite, because it doesn’t smell sour enough. Flavor is surprisingly sweet for a biere de garde, and has considerble yeast. Also very malty, and probably the thickest and heaviest beer I have had in this style. Finish is sweet malt with wild herbs and spices.

Bottle courtesy of Naven: Poured a cloudy dark brown/burgundy color ale with a nice big light brown foamy head with great retention and good lacing. Aroma of dry raisins and dry figs is very enjoyable Taste is a well balance mix between some sweet malt with nice dry raisins and figs characteristics with a subtle yeasty finish. Body is full with some great carbonation and no alcohol could be detected. I thought this was similar to Chimay blue or Achel extra bruin and presents a very nice level of complexity. It is definitely something I wish I could get my hand on more often.

Bottle. [ Courtesy of drewbeerme ] Dark brown / black color with a average frothy good lacing mostly lasting beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, rasin, plum, port, tawny, soy sauce, licorice, burnt sugar, bourbon, oak, chocolate. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a long duration. Body is full, texture is oily, syrupy, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. Very very nice ;o)) Hopefully I will be lucky enough some day to have another bottle of this fine beer.

Enjoyed at the csbosox tasting 7/3. 750ml Bottle mail ordered from South Bay (Imperial Beach, CA). Pour is deep brown with a hint of red in the background. Aroma is malt and a bit of sweetness. Some alcohol is present in the nose. Taste is raisin and big malt and a finish of whisky, wine and alcohol. Nicely done, but may have improved with a bit of age on it.

From 75 cL bottle. Pours amber with a crispy white head. Citric and bitter aroma. Malty metallic, vague dried fruit note. Dry fruity/malty and alcohol finish.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of Storm. Pours a clear, amber golden with a tall, dense, off-white head leaving some lacework. Aroma of yeast and roasted malt. Quite a full body with sweetish, roasted malt and lots of fruit. Dry and alcoholic finish. 290607

Bottled, thanks cquiroga! Cloudy nut brown, average head. Caramelly nose. Sweet and fairly soft with medium body. Mild and spritzy, fruity and lightlyestery. So melon and metal shows up as well. Stays shy of being overpowering and cloying, and is instead mild and laid back. Somehow the flavour doesn’t really cover the whole mouth as in the best Belgian ales.

Bottled. Hazy amber colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is sour fruits, nuts and slight caramel. Flavour is caramel, nuts, some alcohol and a bit of licorace. A very smoothly and pleasantly balanced brew.

Brown beer, an unremarkable appearance. Aroma has toffee and malt. Flavor is more malt and bitter hops. It is interesting enough, but a medium bodied, rather ordinary beer overall. I have no idea why this is rated so highly.
