Description
Grolsch was first brewed in Groenlo in 1615 by Willem Neerfeldt. Peter Cuyper, son-in-law of Neerfeldt, was appointed master of the Grolsche brewing guild in 1676. Cuyper died in 1684, after which his descendants continued the business. Until 1876, the beer was brewed in the center of Groenlo. In that year brewery 'De Klok' built a new brewery outside the city. In 1895 it was bought by Theo de Groen, a descendant of a Zevenaar brewing family.
The De Groen family has upgraded the company from 1968 from a local brewery to an international company. Until 2004, Grolsch was brewed in Groenlo and Enschede. Since 2004, both locations have been closed and there is a new brewing factory in Boekelo-Usselo.
On 19 November 2007 the board of Royal Grolsch NV accepted a €816 million offer for the company by SABMiller. The takeover was completed with the delisting of Grolsch's shares on 20 March 2008. SABMiller subsequently sold the company to Anheuser-Busch InBev and in April 2016, the latter accepted Asahi Group Holdings Ltd.’s offer to buy not only Grolsch but also the Peroni and Meantime beer brands.

This came in a bottle and was labelled Mariner of Holland. Light gold - med frothy head. Lightly skunked. Light citrusy herbal hop aroma. Med flavor: decent backing bitterness, not much malt. Mostly clean. Quite boring. Typical continental lager.

If it wasn't for the pine needle-flavour in the finish this would have been an avarage lager.

Plae yellow. Spicy aroma. A bit thin and sharp. Low bitterness. Slightly fruity. but not a lot of flavours. Inoffensive.

Rerate: More flavour than the other Dutch macrobrew lagers, still I'm far from ecstatic. Clearly on the bitter (hoppy) side (too much bitterness for me), some sweetness too. Not as easily drinkable as Dommelsch. I had it on tap (in Holland) as well as can (have sampled the original bottle earlier), it didn't improve much from tap, unlike most beers.

Copper red. Extremely sweet with an alcohol punch like straight vodka. IMO a contender for the worst beers ever.

Golden coloured. Somehow always a big, unpleasant skunky aroma. Meidum bodied, sweetish with a very industrial feeling to it. Don't let the fancy bottle fool you, this is nothing else than a cheap lager in disguise.

It smells like 'drop' in dutch. Don't know the english word. Bit caramelly. Really weird. Any case, it's not my favorite kind of taste. Clear brown color. Bit malty tastes, some sweetness in it. Man, i'm not good in describing tastes, but as i am the first one to describe this. It's not superb, but not bad either... Palate is pretty much the same as aroma and flavor.

Woo hoo! The bums in front of the pizza joint at Bloor & Spadina have a new favourite, just in time of the holidays. Actually, compared with their other favourites, Faxe 10% and Crest Super, this stuff is relatively drinkable. It looks respectable enough with its orangey-amber colour. And the hint of caramel on the nose and palate tells you that this is no ordinary ghetto juice. This is the premium stuff they drink when the pogey cheque comes in!
