Description
David Cole and Peter Erickson are the founders and co-owners of Epic Brewing Company. Cole and Erickson, originally from California, started an international aquaculture company in Utah in 1992. In 2008, Utah law changed allowing these two entrepreneurs to pursue their longtime dream of opening a strong beer microbrewery in Utah, like those they frequented in the Golden State.
Admittedly, beer geeks, foodies, and "Epic" adventure junkies, share a passion for making and drinking fine ales and lagers. The Epic team has a strong belief in doing everything "all out."

lattina 355 ml, “made with rotating artisanal coffee”, schiuma color marrone media grana persistente, colore marrone/nero, al naso intenso caffè e olive!?, in bocca predomina il caffè poi vaniglia cacao e liquirizia, corpo rotondo, watery, carbonazione piatta, dolce con amaro accentuato lungo nel finale. Caffè su tutto. Deve piacere…. Comunque equilibrata e molto buona. c. Birraland.it 21.10.23

(Bottle, vintage 2018. Thanks to Håkan) Black colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with fresh coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of bourbon. Malty, roasted, fairly sweet taste with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, cacao, vanilla, cinnamon, liquorice, bourbon, oak wood and a balanced coffee bitterness in a sweetish finish. Full body, quite sweet. Rich and powerful, still smooth and in great balanced. Lovely beer!

Poured from 650mL bottle (stamped release 38 - from 2015). Clear salmon orange with very quickly dissipating white head. Lots of raspberry on the nose with some gentle tartness and bready Belgian yeast. Taste has subdued raspberry upfront with Belgian yeast, some feint tartness. A little bit of an odd combo, but decent. Definitely not an acid bomb, the sweetness of the berry vs the sweetness of the yeast doesn't totally meld for me. Unsure if this is due to its age. Okay.

2022 bottle drunk 9/1/23. Dark. Small, tan head slowly to ring. Nose is light hints of coconut, nicely not overdone. Typical chocolate/cacao-coffee with easygoing whiskey and light vanilla. No booze, lots of chocolate, light caramel. It's soft, rich, on the sweeter side though certainly not problematically so. Rich chocolate and moderate coffee. Low coconut, mostly appearing as fruitiness on the finish. Heavy on the cacao and with sweet chocolate throughout. Nowhere near as sweet and sluggish as the Breakfast version, but still a little less elegant than any other version I've had. Just not quite as dry and bourbon-redolent as any of the others. The whiskey in the 2022 versions has been very, very minimal.

2022 bottle drunk 9/1/23. Dark with a small, light-tan head, low retention. More booze than in other versions, or maybe it's just too much roasted coffee? Whatever the case it's a bit sharp, though softened by rich chocolate/cacao character. Whiskey fairly muted here. Very soft, with heavy coffee, light alcohol/whiskey character (not sure which). Softer, syrupier, sweeter body because of the maple syrup, I assume. A bit much as the base beer is already chocolatey and I don't think sweet, syrupy maple is really needed. These do dry out extensively with age so maybe better in another year? It's not horribly sweet or anything, but the sweetest of the 5 or 6 or so I've tried from them. Not sure why the nose of this one smells so sharp/boozey.

Can 355ml (Beer Hunters, Pori). Opaque colour and tiny beige head. Strong coffee aroma. Medium-bodied. Mellow flavour, coffee dominates, also some coffee tartness which is not so common. Ok.
