22oz bottle, 2018 vintage release #14, drunk 9/14/22. Ebony, undetermined clarity. Small, but well-retained, tan head. Beautiful espresso and mild cinnamon nose with hints of light vanilla. Milk chocolate with light raisin and fudge-like sweetness. Coffee through and through, but it's so well-done with nothing acrid, overly acidic or even that dominant. Still allows the barley and fruity yeast alongside the vanilla. No alcohol noted, either. Touch of oxidation with light molasses, dark chocolate, cacao, soft vanilla and nicely attenuated maltiness. Espresso beans, roasted acidity and light alcohol (not hot/sharp). Love the attenuation, lack of syrup, sugar, or even big fudge. The adjuncts are tastefully done and it doesnt show the big alcohol. A lot to like here and I can see why it's so highly regarded.

Very cloudy pure orange coloured body with a very nice, almost perfect two to three centimetre tall off-white head that fades relatively quickly, doesn't really leave any lacing and only a thin layer on top of the about 80 per cent opaque body. Aroma of very soured, super funky and oaky, dry and aromatic peaches, yeast, and gueuze-like complexity with the foeders and the spontaneously fermented notes the most strong in the nose with some light peaches and apricots along with apples and pears in the nose - this is strong throughout and very enjoyable to smell - quite complex. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence that fades fairly quickly but leaves a lot of apricot, peach and pear notes right behind with a great fruity quality, but those only balance out the strong and pungent soured and super tart notes from the lactobilly and especially noticeable spontaneous fermentation yeasts here that are complex and pungent, but also tart and dry. Aftertaste is complex, period, with apricots, peaches, caster sugar, light honey, a dash of dry grain, some slight grassy notes, but mainly the spontaneous fermentation, oak and cedar woodsie notes but tarntess throughout - this is rich and pungent at the end, in a great, enjoyable and 'always-keeps-you-guessing' way. Overall, a great beer that has aged tremendously well - I'm not sure how this was fresh, but definitely nice to keep this long in the right conditions, and have it, exactly seven years after purchase, on such a sad day for this country. I sampled this wax-sealed, 37,5 cL bottle, purchased from Sicliano's in Grand Rapids, Michigan with my daughter on 11-September-2015 for US$13,79 as part of the 'Aged 13 Months, 7,3% alcohol, DEN #2547, Release #01' sampled exactly SEVEN years later at my house here a few blocks from the Pentagon, in Washington on 11-September-2022 after visiting the memorial of course with my (now) three kids on 11-September-2022.
