Bottle from Systembolaget, e-order in January 2016. Hazy dark amber with a large creamy head. On the sweet side with malt, caramel, some dried fruit and hints of bread. The body was around medium and the bitterness quite light. A descent one.

Bottle bought thought Systembolaget. Pours hazy golden with a rather small frothy white head that leaves some sticky trace in the glass while dissipating. Smell is slightly malty, tiny fruity and slightly floral with white rustic bread, crackers, hay, minerals, pears, mealy apples, lemon peal and hints if butterscotch. Taste is tiny sweet, bitter, very tiny sour, malty, tiny fruity and tiny floral. Mouthfeel is soft, round, tiny dry, tiny astringent and light to medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, slightly bitter and very tiny sour with sourdough crackers, white bread, hay, newly apples, minerals, iron, lemon peal and tiny hints of vomit. Pilsner is all about nuances and not just about the components. Sweetness and bitterness need to complement each other. Rustic bready malts and bitter floral hops needs to play their part. Even diacetyl plays an important role. This has most of the components but non of the nuances I’m afraid. Mealy apples and light sourness makes it feel off. Close but no cigar. --- Beer merged from original tick of Bohemian Pilsner on 30 Jan 2016 at 19:29 - Score: 5. Original review text: Off! Mealy apples and pears. Light sourness. Has most of the right components but none of the balance.

First ratingBlindlagerprovning, tack Ingo!Bottle on January 24, 2016.BB 11.12.2016.Hazy golden color, small white head. Since I knew we were tasting lagers had my doubts even here at the look of it, but figured perhaps it was dry hopped, hence hazy due to this?Vile, sulphuric, phenolic, plastic, acidic, compost, garbage scent. At first when I smelled it I made such a face that Ingo started laughing, been a long time since I smelled a beer that was so off!Acidic, grassy, mineral taste. Acidic aftertaste, also compost and garbage. At first taste was almost acceptable, but with a slight temperature shift and then the enhanced aftertaste, goes down the drain next...Medium, fizzy, though OK mouthfeel. Low bitterness.Sad to say the only thing I found OK in this beer was the mouthfeel and the bitterness level. More than one thing gone wrong here, terribly wrong! Feels like problems in recipe, in fermentation and in sanitation. This bottle might have been a bad bottle only, but this bottle should really never have left the brewery, or best of all, never been produced in the first place. When I found out it was West Coast that brewed it I was a bit sad, had much higher hopes for this new local brewery, but indeed hope this was just a crap bottle that slipped through.1/2/2/3/3=1.1RerateBacklog, used to work for this brewery and at time reviewed the beers I tasted, now that I am no longer employed figured I can enter them.33 cl bottle on September 18, 2016. Bottled, from Systembolaget. Hazy golden, rocky head. Aroma of tea, hay and metal. Dry with medium body and clean, hard mouthfeel. Hay and iron, sourdough and tea. Resiny bitter finish with more metal. Between the metallic edges it is a beer with lots of qualities, but polishing is needed. This is a beer I need to revisit.

As for my ratings below, they are from when the beer was called "West Coast Bryggeri Baltic porter", both the brewery name and the beer name, as well as the label, was a tad different.First ratingBottle 33 cl thanks to Ingo! On January 8, 2016.BB 08.12.2016.Clear dark reddish brown color, medium sized brown head with lacing. Malty, sweet, alcohol, light roasted, chocolate, hints of smoke scent. Malty, roasted, light acidic, grainy, ashes taste. Dry, bitter, grainy aftertaste. Medium to light fizzy mouthfeel, medium though dry bitterness.7/4/6/3/12=3.2RerateBacklog, used to work for this brewery and at time reviewed the beers I tasted, now that I am no longer employed figured I can enter them.BB 08.12.2016 - Batch 15011Clear deep dark brown color, medium sized tan head.Hints of raisin, plenty of ash, a bit sweet malty scent.Malty, toasted, raisin taste. Grainy, raisin aftertaste.A bit weak mouthfeel, sort of low CO2, medium low bitterness.Nice color and head for a porter. Scent feels sort of off and the taste hints to an aged porter. A bit low mouthfeel, but fits the style of baltic porter.5/4/7/3/13=3.2
