Can from Beer52. Pours a mostly clear gold with decent small white head. A slightly muted aroma but picking up pine, flora, white bread crust. Flavour has some stone fruit and grapefruit bitterness with bready malt and some modest pine resin notes. Medium bodied, semi-drying. Decent enough.

Can at 5.5%. My first Black IPL. Pours black with decent sized beige foamy head, very good retention. Aroma of dark malt, grapefruit rind, blackcurrant, dust. Taste of citrus rinds, berries, roast, hop spice, pine, dark ;chocolate. Mid bodied, fine carbonation. Enjoyable.

Sample (thanks omhper!). Very deep brown colour with a small beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some chocolate, mild rye bready tones with some toasted toffee. Flavour is chocolate, some rye bready tones with mild roast and some slight dried fruity tones to it. Somewhat ashy finish.

330ml can. Opalescent, orange golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Sweet-ish fruity and lactic, tart-ish, minimally tangy aroma, minimally grainy, malty background, hints of strawberry, rhubarb, a touch of sauerkraut and grape sugar. Taste is sweet-ish, minimally sugary, fruity and malty, lactic tart and mildly tangy, hints of strawberry and a touch of grape sugar, hints of rhubarb and a touch of sauerkraut. Minimally oily, watery texture, slightly astringent palate, medium, mildly prickly carbonation. Balanced on a rather high level of tartness and sweetness, fairly refreshing - decent.
