Description
The story of Bear Republic, like most other craft brewers, begins with homebrewing. It was the spark for our passion to create quality, hand-crafted beers. We are a family-owned brewery, located in the heart of Sonoma County, California. The company was established by the Norgrove family in 1995, with Richard G. Norgrove as brewmaster.
After 11 years of rapid growth, we opened our Factory 5 brewery in Cloverdale, California, where we brew and package all our beer that goes to market. We hand select our ingredients for each batch, the grains and hops we use are chosen for their unique characteristics and the recipes and formulations are patiently developed over time. Many recipes start as a home-brew and then develop into the commercial beer available in many retail outlets today. We pride ourselves in using our established methods while always looking to improve efficiencies and techniques that allow us to provide quality beer to share with the world.
Beginning 2023 thw brewery was acquired by Drake’s Brewing.

On tap at Bear Republic - Rohnert Park, pours jet black with a small tan head. Nose is loaded with intense roast, wood, and a fair wallop of resinous hops. Flavour has a lot of depth, with intense roasted malt, lots of wood, and intense piney hops to back. Extremely intense flavour profile, with a lot of wood and roast, finishing almost fruity and somewhat hoppy. Very good.

On tap at Bear Republic - Rohnert Park, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma is musty and earthy, with tired hops, some sweat socks, and bready notes. Flavour is a little better in the hop expression, with a mix of earthy and resinous hops upfront, and backed by bready malt. The hops still have that sweaty, musty character, making it seems like it's not the freshest or that the hop expression is just not that great.

On tap at Bear Republic - Rohnert Park, pours a clear bright golden amber with a small white head. Aroma reveals rustic saison yeast, with moderate bretty funk, and doughy malt. Flavour is funky, with lots of wild yeast, musty bretty notes, and dusty bread malt. Balanced and nicely incorporating of the brett. Good stuff.

On tap at Bear Republic - Rohnert Park, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Nose is dank, with lots of piney hops, rich resinous hops, and just enough malt sweetness to back. Flavour is robust, full of dank piney hops, truckloads of resinous hop oils, and just enough caramel malt sweetness to back. Beautiful old school west coast double IPA, with ample hopping, assertive but bearable bitterness, and a perfect malt backbone. Excellent.

(Bottle) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head, leaving traces of lacing. Malty, hoppy nose with grapefruit, mango, apricots, caramel, flowers and honey. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of grapefruit, mango, apricots, flowers, pine needles, honey, caramel and a generous citric, piney bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Solid and well made IIPA, with lots of hops and malt to back it up. Very nice.

Unbelievable a beer this smooth and drinkable is 12%. Insane. Anyway…wonderful pint from Bear Republic, mellow and rich and delicious, with deep veins of cocoa, molasses, caramel, and espresso, with veins of anise, roast, and raisin underneath. Finishes with a dark chocolate flourish before leading into a bitter, clingy fade. Damn fine beer.
