Draft, flight pour, at The Bar on 22, 3/12/24. (11) Dark brown color, light brown head. Decent lace coat to it. Roast and coffee. Plenty of bourbon. Vanilla and caramel notes. Decent.

2005 bottle acquired in trade way back then. I'm joining the new tradition of popping a Quad on Lead Day. Great idea! Pour is nearly flat, just a little fizz as I pour, but no bubbles. Smell has a nice sugar and molasses character. Then some plum and a note of pipe tobacco. Taste is nice and bourbony, a bit of sour aftertaste. Mouthfeel is a bit of a letdown. But that's likely due to age: rather flat again, just some pinpricks of bubble. Again, it's my fault for not having one of these earlier for comparison. Hmm, I just swirled in a few dreg, and it kind of added an umami and yeast taste.

Old note. Bottle. Aroma: spices dominate, a little melon and pumpkin. Taste: complex, cardamom and cinnamon, sweet, malty, pumpkin, too spicy for me.

Can pour from AirForceHops--thanks, Chris! Lightly hazy (fine particulate mist), nice sparkle, thin cap of head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is Pilsner malt, somewhat cardboard, mild florals. Taste is strong Pilsner malt, faint floral. Smooth, frothy texture, lively carbonation and crisp finish as taste. Poundable.

Bottle shared with my brother. Quite a nice barley wine, lots of prune and figs, very smooth, some herbal hops notes. Good, classic barley wine.

Nice beer, just what I wanted, though a bit strong. This sits firmly in the same ballpark as beers like Rodenbach Grand Cru and Redbach, but with raspberries instead of cherries. It is very nicely acetic sour, with balsamic and red wine notes, high ABV contributes a lot of body and sweetness as well. (its almost too strong really but I drank the whole thing because why not?) Low carbonation (bottle was unknown age but likely pretty old) but still lively enough. Raspberries were hard to single out as a single feature of the aroma or flavor, but definitely gave it a jammy/fruity aspect. I suspect the age played a role in the muting of any brighter fruit flavors, but in this case that might end up being a good thing.

Bottle. Reddish amber colour with a minor head. Aroma is dried fruits, plum, some mild alcohol, spiciness and some sweet malty tones to it. Flavour is dried dark fruits, some berries, mild yeasty spiciness with some alcohol, toffee and mild burnt sugary tones.

22/4/2023. Bottle from New Beer Distributors, New York shared at SBGP2. Pours clear deep reddish brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of toffee, biscuit, fruits, butterscotch. Medium sweetness and moderate bitterness. Quite full bodied, slightly sticky, soft carbonation. Enjoyable. 9383-15.38
