Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is a bit butter over dark malt. Med body. Flavor is mostly chocolate and smooth dark malt. Gets coffee bitter in the finish. Damn good beer for the ABV.

12th June 2014 Tasting at Bruce’s pad. 3rd time lucky with this jonah brew! Hazy deep amber beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is light and crisp. Rich woody nose. Caramel malts, some wood. Marmalade, bitterish. Light sherry and malt cream. Light finish. Rich and tasty but might improve with some time.

After 6.5 years this has mellowed out - not much at all! The marmalade is a little more pronounced perhaps, but otherwise this tastes exactly as I wrote back in 2014.

bottle from ølbutikken. dark brown, smooth light brown to brown head. very nice roasted malty aroma, sweet notes but not overly sweet. palate is surprisingly smooth, flavor is a little bit on the sweet side, but ecept from making the chili burn, it did work well with my veggie-pizza with extra chili and garlic. Tastes like a black beer from mikeller, the signature sweetness and bitter hoppiness. Personally i find it too sweet, but i was warned...

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, thanks to Kenny Kenny, 12/06/14. Chestnut brown with a moderate beige covering. Nose is toffee, spice, lgiht booze, sugars, sherry tones, dark fruit peel. Taste comprises light mineral notes, earthy, toffee, booze, grain, herbal, hint of liqourice. Medium + bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok barley wine.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Tenacious Kenny. Pours clear amber with a creamy, tan head. The nose has a bit of wood, old berries, pine, caramel. Medium sweet flavor, a bit metallic, more caramel, earth, leather. Full bodied with with fine, creamy carbonation. Warm finish with bitter leaves, pine, wood, gooey and sugary berries, bread, some toasted caramel, herbs, cedar. So so.

Bottle thanks to Ken. It pours deep amber with a minimal tan head. The nose is fresh, raisin, vinous, cherry skin, candied peel, candy floss, leather, earth and brown bread. The taste is sherry, wood, earth, booze, vinous, berry skin, varnish, leather, caramel and more booze with a dry, hot finish. Med-full body and fine carbonation. A bit hot for sure, but not bad.

bottle from ølbutikken, tasted with veggie burgers. golden yellow, bubbly white head. aroma like a pils, but a little more malts, a little corn, some sweetness similar to honey. flavor is like a pilsener, but with a faint citrussy note , and a slight boozy note(like some mexican pils) also flowers. Quite powerfull taste, i think it would go well with salty food, like a good hot-dog from john’s hot-dog deli. taste grows on you after a few sips, and it is rounder and a lot more deep in the flavor profile than a south american lager.

Cloudy orange smooth offwhite head. Hoppy and floral aroma. Also sweet notes. Flavor is bitter hoppy flowery hoppy us style. Palate is insanely smooth. Tasted better when not paired with food

Capped 750 from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent brassy gold with a slight, transient white head. Aroma is hop - mostly fruity. Med body or better. Flavor is malty, Belgian yeast, earthiness, and maybe a hint of herb/mint. Actually making me think spearmint. It’s pretty hoppy, but there’s enough malt to hold it. With time I’m thinking herb/mint is the main deal. Burps nice. Very interesting stuff.
