From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy amber with a small tan head. Aroma is toasted malty and slight caramelish. Bitter, toasted malty and light caramelish. Medium sweet, caramelish malty and light hops fruity.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a creamy, tan and dense head. Aroma is roasted dark malty, breadish and vague liqourice. Smooth malty, caramelish, breadish and dark roasted malt. Smooth malty and slight flat finish.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours clear and golden orange with a small white head. Aroma is fruity and light peachy. Smooth fruity, peachy. Light bodied. No real sweetness. Smooth fruity and vague bitter finish.

Chocolate Milk Stout from Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery: Arlington

Cask: Pours a black color with a loose brown head. This beer was cooler than most cask ales I’ve had. Aroma is of chocolate, sugar, and cream, perhaps also some vanilla. Body is on the thinner side of stouts, but still substantial enough. Has a kind of condensed milk flavor in a way. The chocolate character is very much on the light chocolate side of the spectrum. A plenty drinkable and enjoyable beer.

Rock Bottom Arlington, VA tap: Pours a black color with a nitrogen head and the cascading carbonation. In short, it looks like a proper stout. Aroma and taste are, as others have noted, pretty close to Guinness. I suppose that was the point, and this beer succeeded in that regard. Like Guinness, it is very mild and light-bodied. Might actually be a little less bitter than Guinness. Overall, this was pretty good, but it was not incredible.

Rock Bottom Arlington, VA tap: Pours a yellow color with a white head. I didn’t get it in a goblet glass, but rather in a pint glass. Aroma is banana and spice; however, something is off from normal tripel. The body is somehow not what I expect from a tripel; perhaps, it is too malty or thick... maybe the texture or carbonation is off. There are definite booze notes in this beer. As far as i was concerned, this was the weakest beer I had at Rock Bottom, yet still drinkable and very alcoholic.

Pours a hazy golden color, with a small white head. Aroma is citrus hops, touch of malts, floral notes. Flavor is pretty well balanced between hop bitterness and malt backing.

Had both draft and cask versions of this beer. I’ll rate the draft one. The beer poured a dark color with a creamy tan head. Creamy mouth feel is dry, sweet malt notes. Very similar in structure and flavor to Guinness. Highly drinkable, but pretty standard otherwise.
