Bottled. Brownish red, small head. Balsamic cherry aroma - actually quite pleasant. Then it hits: An all dominating flavour of chemicals and artificial sweetener. Harsh and raw wirth syrupy mellow mouthfeel and a burning chemical finish. What an utter mess.

Bottled (BB 12/2006). Pale golden color, white head. Malty nose, hints of rice and cardboard and wheat porridge. Sweetish white bread flavor. Typical unclean Kimmel-flavors. One time only -beer.

Bottled as "Kimmel Rigas Tumsais" (BB 02/2007). Dark rubycolor, good tan head. Sweet caramelly aroma of fudge. Medium-bodied. Creamy mouthfeel. Caramelly with malty finish. Sort of "the brewery is not the most modern" -feeling here - some flavors are unclean.

Bottled. Ruby red colour, small beige head. Aroma at first quite caramnellish and malty. Flavour at this point was caramellish malty too. Once it gets a bit warmer both flavour and aroma starts to live. Flavour gets a bit sweetness, fruitishness and plums in it. Flavour gets Sweet malts, caramel, a weak sting of alcohol and some hoppyness in it. So, I would say, good session beer both warm and cold. Oh well, it seems like a beer which is kind of divided, hate it or love it... I’ll compromise and like it.

Bottled. Had it as Kimmel Rigas Stiprais, 7%. Golden colour, huge white bubbly/foamish head. Kiwifruitish aroma. Sweet caramellish fruity flavour. Also some hints of alcohol in the flavour. Gives a bit oily mouthfeel. Could do with a bit more bitterness, as I felt it was too sweet for me. 6363 12

Kimmel Rigas stiprais (bottled.) 7%. Golden coloured, big foamy/bubbly head. Aroma is sweet caramel, fuit and alcohol. Flavour mainly sweet alcohol, fruit and caramel. Also some balancing hops, which makes the flavour quite good. Aftertaste is pleasant, but flavour while drinking not too good. 43539

What did I do to Darkover to deserve this? Well, now I can check Latvia off the list of countries I need to visit to try a beer. This was a poor excuse for a Vienna. The color was pretty and the head and lacing were okay, but the flavor was sour and acidic. I have a Romulan Ale with Darkover''s name on it...
