Draught at Cruzat Beer House, Buenos Aires. Hazy golden, small head. Vinous toffeish nose. Sweet and full bodied with plenty of toffeeish malt. There’s apricots, alcohol and orange, but malt dominates. Fairly typical for Argentinian barley wines, as it’s dominated by caramelly malt, hops are scarcely seen guests and the alcohol stays in the background of the malt.

Draught at Cruzat Beer House, Buenos Aires. Clear golden, rich very creamy head. Evident coriander aroma. Very sweet and really orangey with plenty of spices and soft, syrupy mouthfel. Some grass hops stay in the background, banana is more prominent. Light salty/spicy finish. Not a very traditional kölsch.

Draught at Territorio Bar, Buenos Aires. Black with beige creamy head. Yeasty licorice aroma. Medium bodied and gently roasty with notes of tangerine and lemon licorice. A bit unfocused and unusual, but pretty good.

Draught at Territorio Bar, Buenos Aires. Hazy amber, no head. Aroma of peppery apples and toffee. The soft malt holds lots of caramelly flavour, but the body is light for a beer this size. A low hop rate allows for fiery alcohol, sherry wood whiskey and salty sea breeze to come through. Low bitterness. My first, but certainly not last contact with the interesting type of barley wines being brewed in Argentina.

Draught at Territorio Bar, Buenos Aires. Very black, small head. Heavy licorice/lemon flavour. Dense and fairly carbonated with slick roasty flavour with a lemony yeasty touch. Medium bitterness. Possesses a lot of nice flavours, but they are not melting together and a it’s being a bit fizzy.
