Sarajevska Pivara
Commercial Brewery
in Sarajevo,
Federation of BiH,
Bosnia and Herzegovina 🇧🇦
Associated Venue: Pivnica HS
Established in 1864
The brewery survived both World Wars. In 1957, the first automatic line for bottling beer with a capacity of 5,000 bottles per hour was put into operation, and in the following 15 years, all facilities were reconstructed, so the production capacity was increased to 400,000 hectoliters per year.
At the start of the eighties the Sarajevo brewery was in the biggest crisis during its entire history, and in the former Yugoslavia it fell to the 20th place out of a total of 28 breweries in the former Yugoslavia. The decline was successfully stopped by the arrival of Mr. Hilma Selimović as general director. By 1991, the Brewery was modernized, and its production increased by three times, so the Sarajevo Brewery was ranked among the four leading breweries in the former Yugoslavia.
Sarajevo Brewery is the leading B&H brewery. company in the production of beer, carbonated and non-carbonated water, soft drinks and juices. Production takes place at the company's headquarters in the old part of Sarajevo, on an area of about 17,400 m2.

Bottle. Pours pale amber yellow with a medium white head that dissipates quickly with decent lacing. Aroma is corn syrup and citrus. Flavor is about the same, medium sweet, citrusy, with a bit of bitterness. Not a bad beer at all, for a pale lager.

Ein wirklich widerliches Balkan-Alkoholfreies. Geschmack nach Spülmittel und Zuckerwasser. Braucht man nicht.

Very pale and no head - this is ugly even for a radler. Smells like 7up. Very sweet. Even by radler standards this lacks basic beeriness.

Medium gold colour. The aroma has a saazy accent and some pale malts. Clean palate. Still fairly low bitterness but some saaz accents and again this is quite malty. A decent Bohemian-style beer that would benefit from a little more bitterness.

The small bottle "Premium" is hard to find, but is available at the brewery restaurant. Straw colour. The aroma is kind of grainy, with light alcohol accents. Tastes a bit grainy. The body is a bit thin, leaving little on the tongue. Cleaner that their usual stuff but that’s about it.

A dark shade of golden-brown. Aroma has toffee, caramel and some diacetyl. There is some burnt toffee and earthiness with the diacetyl coming back in the finish.

At the brewery - gorgeous building. Cloudy and pale. The aroma is doughy with light spiciness but also some funky fruitiness. The palate is similar, with the funk detracting from the other, more positive, attributes.

Golden colour with minimal head. Smells like a Carlsberg product - sticky pale malts and faint, indistinct hops. Similar taste, pretty boring.

Ein angenehm würziger Geruch begleitet das dunkle Bier aus Sarajevo...leider kann der Geschmack nicht ganz mithalten. Trotz etwas wässrigen Nicht-Geschmacks in Ordnung.

Out of a bottle in Neum, Bosnia. Aroma of sweet grain and lemon. Slightly hazy with large white head. Light straw. Taste is slightly bitter finish. Thin mouthfeel.
