Description
The Sarajevska Brewery opened in 1864 as the first local industry and shortly became one of the leading producers in Bosnia, with considerable amounts exported to Montenegro, Croatia and Albania. Just before World War I, Sarajevska Pivara was producing 116,000 hectoliters per year, and in 1916 it passed the limit of 150,000 hl.

The brewery survived both World Wars. In 1957, the first automatic line for bottling beer with a capacity of 5,000 bottles per hour was put into operation, and in the following 15 years, all facilities were reconstructed, so the production capacity was increased to 400,000 hectoliters per year.

At the start of the eighties the Sarajevo brewery was in the biggest crisis during its entire history, and in the former Yugoslavia it fell to the 20th place out of a total of 28 breweries in the former Yugoslavia. The decline was successfully stopped by the arrival of Mr. Hilma Selimović as general director. By 1991, the Brewery was modernized, and its production increased by three times, so the Sarajevo Brewery was ranked among the four leading breweries in the former Yugoslavia.

Sarajevo Brewery is the leading B&H brewery. company in the production of beer, carbonated and non-carbonated water, soft drinks and juices. Production takes place at the company's headquarters in the old part of Sarajevo, on an area of about 17,400 m2.

Ha! Got to be the first one to find and rate this. Go me! Shared with the Croatian crew in Zagreb though. Porued an extremely pale yellow body (Sarajevsko looks pale enough to begin with, "diluted", it’s impressive in that aspect). No head. Fresh 7-Up & nose. Lemon rock candy and 7-Up fighting in the taste. Hey, this is more palatable than their regular lager most of the time and better than expected. Yay!

At HS. Clear blackish red body. Raisiny dryish malty nose. Nice! The taste carries smooth simple raisins, sweet, quite nice overall actually if one-dimensional. Bit dusty and without much bitterness. Cute! And a definitive plus for Bosnia.

At the Pivnica HS. Typical pale Sarajevsko yellow body only hazy and carrying nice, lively streams of carbonation. Bready, subdued nose that carries some light acidity, slightly perfumey. The taste is a positive twist from the regular stuff. Perfumey, light and malty with very light lemon and grain. Subdued in general. Extremely light cute tartness in the finish instead of bitterness which just isn’t there. Not bad.

Bottled 330ml. -Pale golden coloured, small white head, weak grainy buttery nose. Few big bubbles of carbonation. Watery, light malty and grainy with sweetish buttery finish. This supposed to be winter beer, but it’s just another plain pale lager from neighborhood.

Bottled, 0.5 l. Slightly hazy golden colour with large creamy white head and mild carbonation. Aroma of malt, floral hops and unfortunatelly, urine, too. Sour grapefruit flavour with short bitter aftertaste. Medium bodied with oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Not more than average dull lager...
