At Afsnis in Ghent, where its colleagues Janis Hoplin and Jonn Lemmon are on the menu as well; commissioned porter made at a Serbian craft brewery I hadn’t heard of so far. Thick and dense, creamy, pale beige head, blackish robe with translucent chestnut brown edges. Aroma of hazelnut shells, ’natural’ but undeniable iron, bitter chocolate, mocha, dry black tea, coffee grounds, dried fig, straw, dates. Subdued, ’clean’ dark fruitiness in the mouth, hint of fig, medium carbo, smooth but somewhat thinnish mouthfeel; caramelly and notably nutty malt core quickly developing a toasted bittering edge, slight metallic presence but feeling ’natural’, vague sourish undercurrent, tea-ish herbal hop bitterishness in the finish along with ongoing, toffeeish and somewhat chocolatey malt sweetness, juicy, with a subtle coffeeish roasted bitter touch. Nice and perfectly balanced, but lacking a bit in depth and body even for an ordinary brown porter.

Sampled from bottle @ Danish Ratebeer Gathering Ulfborg 2016, Day 1. Clear dark red to dark amber color, average to medium sized beige to light brown head. Smell and taste malts, lightly toasted malts, some caramel I guess. DOn’t really get that many flavors to be honest. Not bad, but coffee and chocolate flavors flying through the air? Hmm...no.
