Description
On the outskirts of Billund, just a stone's throw from the expansive Jutland heaths, lays Dansk Mjød. A traditional brewery which has brewed mead since 1994 on the basis of old recipes and with an uncompromising focus on quality and ingredients. It is the endless stories and myths about mead, which still inspire Dansk Mjød to create products that combine the ancient brew craft and tradition with a modern eye for quality and tastes.

Corked bottle from the meadery in Billund
Measured Final Gravity: 1035
Hazy golden color; there is a small deposit in the bottle. There is some aroma of fresh chestnuts, chestnut tree sap, dark honey, forest leaves. Although this version avoids some of the flaws present in its two brothers, it has some similarities: medium sweet, with a strong alcohol presence and a lingering bitterness in the final; there is some caramel flavor and a very light feeling of stewed fruits; light trace of anise here too.
Not offensive, but another basic Mead. All overpriced.

Corked bottle from the meadery in Billund
Measured Final Gravity: 1040
Yellow color. It has a similar smell as the Hyldeblomst just tasted: alcohol, soap products, chemicals, glue and paint thinner, rubber. Quite sweet Mead; there may be indeed a trace of apples, and light astringency from the juice; here as well the alcohol is quite strong. In the final there is some bitterness (undesired), but at least a trace of acidity; as those traces of anise and sweet liquorice in the very end?
Better than the Hyldeblomst, but still basic.

Bottled. A yellow beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of honey, and spices. The flavor is sweet with notes of honey and spices, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Ceramic bottle 75 cl. Pours a clear golden. Very sweet and flowery honey aroma - pleasant indeed. Solid body, sweet and pleasant honey notes but then comes some not too pleasant ashy accents - some marzipan too. Warming alcohol finish. 130711

Ceramic bottle. clear dark amber, no head, but a few bubbles. Dark for a mead. Alcohol domnates the aroma, which also have some honey, and something that resembles wood. alc. is stinging in the nose. Too much alcohol has been added to this one. Flavor is burning alcohol, honey, "ceramic bottle", flowers. Beneath the burning alc. there is some good stuff going on, but the alc. really distracts a lot.

Bottle. Pours caramel brown. Nose/taste of honey, wood, grains, flower petals and vanilla. Cloyingly sweet at times. Some herbal notes.
