Description
We started a Brewery as a means to contribute to a truly artisan craft. We believe in friendship before finance and are happy to help others in this industry as we have been helped by those who came before us. We are bold believers in the fact that a well made beer can cool your spirit and warm your soul.

Our flagship Mason Ale Works production brewery opened in 2017 at our San Marcos Urge Common House Location. Here JJ “Sweet Meat” Jimenez, our Director of Brewing Operations, helms the wheel. All of our can releases like our popular Jambi West Coast IPA and Respeto Mexican Lager are brewed and canned in these four walls. We also crank out an extensive line-up of one-off releases out of here.

Dark brown. No head. On the nose, light chocolate and coffee, with just a touch of alcohol. Soft and sweet, the bourbon lending alcohol and some vanilla, with a little bit of phenol. Light coffee and chocolate.

Dark brown. No head. On the nose, the coconut is mellow but evident, and then there's a touch of coffee and some husky malts. On the palate, just a lot of coconut. It's sweet, lightly chocolatey, nice coffee. Again, the malts aren't great but the coconut makes it all right. Sadly, not a lot of rum, or else I'm just missing it.

12 oz. can, pours black with a small white head. Aroma is loaded with intense coconut, with light rum, cocoa and more coconut. Flavour is all coconut upfront, followed by vanilla, and rum barrels. Sweet, but not cloying, and pleasantly warming. Lovely stuff.

12 oz. can, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out intense coffee upfront, with chocolate and sweet caramel. Flavour is round and well-balanced, with lots of coffee upfront, followed by caramel, and light cocoa. Slightly roasty, and pretty monolithically coffee-like on the finish. This is very nice.

Dark brown, bubbly head. Lots of coffee on the nose. This has a lot of coffee on the palate. Reasonable body but I'd still like a bit more sugars. The coffee is nicely integrated, and with a nutty accent and a touch of alcohol in the finish. Decent example.

On tap at Urge Gastropub & Whiskey Bank, pours a clear copper amber with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out boiled vegetables, subdued herbal hops and toasted bready malt. Flavour is very vegetal and earthy in the hop department, with light grass and semi-sweet caramel biscuity malt. Too vegetal and herbal. Not a fan of this.

On nitro tap at Urge Gastropub & Whiskey Bank, pours a clear blonde with a small creamy white head. Aroma brings out overtones of vanilla and light cocoa upfront.
