Description
In 1564 for the first time a brewery is mentioned in Svijany. In the following years the brewery was owned by different families. In 1912 it was bought by brewer Antonín Kratochvíle. The Kratochvíle family operated the brewery till 1939. After the war the brewery was confiscated and later nationalized. in 1990 the state enterprise Vratislavice nad Nisou was created, which included Svijany Brewery. In 1998 the company Pivovar Svijany was created, which became the new owner of the brewery. In 2005, it was transformed into a joint-stock company. Gradually Svijany became the strongest regional brand with national importance. The popularity of the brewery is increasing and it is gradually being developed into one of the largest independent breweries in the Czech Republic.
Svijany Brewery is wholly Czech owned and remains one of the last in ‚domestic‘ hands.

Draught at Soldaten Svejk, Stockholm. Hazy deep golden amazing rocky extremely firm head. Bready nose with some hay. Fairly sweet with lots of bready malt, later on turning towards butterand dough. Above medium body, fairly soft and lightly fruity with more focus on malt than hops. Salty finish with medium bitterness. Really big for a Czech beer.

Bottle (purchased at the brewery): Pale golden coloured, thin stable white foam, visible carbonation; sweetish-grainy nose with faint hops in the background; watery texture, light sweet-bitter flavour; a bit spicy, nearly lingering bitter finish. Nothing unpleasant detectable, but all in all rather watery..........

Golden color; compact foam. There is some malt and some corn, it has a higher cereals character than an ordinary Pilsner, with a strong final; the hop is crispy but not much aromatic.

Bottle (bought at the brewery): Pours deep golden with a thin, lasting foamy layer, stiching to the glass; sweet malty nose with shy traces of honey and a tinge of alcohol; sweet malty flavour, long bitter-sweet finish with a bitterness becoming more impressive towards the end. Well balanced, a bit sticky, full bodied. A good, not boring strong one.......

Bottle: Golden coloured, mid-sized lasting rocky off-white head; shy nose: herbal hoppiness, sweet malts; short initial sweet maltiness; moderate, drier, bitter flavour; delicate long, dry, aromatic hoppy aftertaste; quite light bodied; good overture, a weaker middle-section, but a real good finale.......

Bottle (bought at the brewery): Dark amber coloured, huge rocky brownish head, very long lasting; only shy malty nose with some fruity traces, too, and - yes - a touch of "cellulose-thinner" ! Weak sweetish maltiness in the beginning, slight bitter-malty taste, distinctive bitterness (cacao, chocolate) in the longer lasting finish; not bad, but rather thin for a 13° (5,2% ABV) brew, only small aroma....and brewed by the use of an ARTIFICIAL SWEETENER ("s umelym sladitlem") ! Presumable the reason for this cellulose-thinner aroma ?

Bottle (bought at the brewery): Pours clear golden, medium-sized, lasting fluffy head; very shy malty nose, some (sweet) maltiness detectable, nothing more; initial seetish maltiness switches over to some slight hoppiness, which influences the slight dry and hop-bitter and malty aftertaste. O.K., full-bodied but not very aromatic......
