Description
Averbode Abbey beer is a tribute to history: from the 14th to the early 20th century the abbey was already actively engaged in brewing. For the production of the ‘new’ abbey beer the abbey opted for Brouwerij Huyghe, which also has a rich history of its own.
However, there are also similarities. Respect for the environment and society play a central role in the brewery. Indeed, Brouwerij Huyghe is the only brewery in Belgium to produce the Mongoza-beer that has received the fair trade, gluten free and organic label. It also actively invests in a smaller footprint and social employment.

Golden, clear with a medium white head. A fruity, yeast, banana aroma. Medium bitter, some sweetness with a fruit, and yeast end.

Bottle from Belgium, thanks to and shared with Simon. A pretty standard tasting Belgian strong ale that was fresh but mostly sweet with a booze backing. Not bad.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 7.5%. Slightly hazy pale golden colour, large white head. Aroma of spicy Belgian ale yeast, white kandij sugar syrup and herbal hops. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has more distinct herbal hops than many other Belgian ales, and is not too sweet. Decent beer.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear yellow with a rich and frothy white head with good retention leaving some lacework. Fruity, yeasty, perfumy nose – very slick. I guess there’s some coriander there. Medium body, rich fruitiness, some yeast and a decent, finishing bitterness. A well made, commercial Belgian Blond. 140623

Draft pour at the The Belgian Brewers' Bash in Washington DC. Poured a pale golden yellow color with a slight haze, with a large white head. Aroma was pleasant light candi, light sweet fruit, pretty easy to drink.
