Sample at the taproom during the "BA Malice & Darkness Final Release" event on 03/24/2017. Hazy yellow-gold color with a medium white head that burns away steadily to a film. Spotty lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of sarsaparilla, herbs and malt. Light-bodied with a botanical and clove character, with some malt and fruit in the background. The finish is spices and herbs with a carrot cake aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Tulip at the brewery - dark purplish red - sweet, but not cloyingly so, and the yeast has imparted enough character (in the form of spicy phenolics and earthy/dustiness) to balance that sweetness somewhat - nose of plum, raisin, brown sugar - the flavor has some of this, mostly the sugar - some cherry, chocolate, and pepper finish - not bad.

Tulip at the brewery - surprisingly tart beer - starts with some light sweetness, but gets dry, with some crackery maltiness - tartness through the middle, tasting almost like underripe apricot and pits - tail end brings some earthy/dusty yeast and some pepper - okay.

Tulip at the brewery - hazy red - heavy on the adjuncts - the lemon verbena is quite present - strong phenolics are fairly spicy, which makes the additional herbs kind of distraction and overkill, making the beer taste a little like potpourri.

Pint at the brewery - turbid gold - sudsy head - very dry and bitter in a pithy, grapefruit and lemon citrus kind of way, like I’m drinking unsweetened grapefruit juice - moderate acidity - some funky Brett, but overall it’s kind of muddy/muddled and indistinct.

So I just spent ten minutes filling out a detailed review of this beer and then ratebeer decides to crap out on me after I hit submit, so all you savages are getting is a statement about how balanced, tasty, and well-executed this beer is - not overly sweet, smoky, lightly acidic, mildly tannic - a damn fine beer this brewer should be proud of.
