Description
Une Anneé, an Independent Craft Brewery, was born, in 2013, on the near west side of Chicago, with the quest of making fine Belgian inspired ales for all beer lovers. Founded by architect and Chicago native, Jerry Nelson, Une Anneé, has expanded it’s offerings over the years with an emphasis on fruited and unfruited American Wile Ales and Barrel Aged Stouts. In 2017, the brewery moved to neighboring Chicago suburb, Niles, IL and expanded to include a taproom. The working brewery in the background lends a hand to creating a laid back atmosphere where you can sit back and enjoy some of your favorite craft beers on tap.

Tap at Sidedoor. Deep chunky brown-black body. Steady beige head. Smooth bakers chocolate. Doughy, coffee tinged. Really smooth for the ABV. The yeasts are restrained. Caramel, chocolate. Quite a pleasant beer. Well done.

750 ml bottle into chalice, 2015 vintage bottling. Pours clear very dark brown color with a small dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of huge raisin, prune, fig, cherry, date, pear, apple, red grape, pepper, clove, light banana, caramel, toffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, light roast, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge raisin, prune, fig, cherry, date, pear, apple, red grape, pepper, clove, light banana, caramel, toffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, light roast, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Moderate yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, prune, fig, cherry, date, pear, apple, red grape, pepper, clove, light banana, caramel, toffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from yeast spiciness as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy, and lightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent quadrupel style! All around great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the huge ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle. Dark brown, muddy appearance. The aroma is right, earthy, some dried fruit. Caramel and more fruit in the flavor, sweet malt is prominent. Flavor is good, palate see!s just a little thin. Good.

Tap at Sidedoor. Unfiltered orange-tan. Big, steady, impressive foamy white head. Sweet Belgian yeast aroma, not as unruly and unrefined as some of its US peers. Has a touch a Belgian IPA/Saison feel, peppery banana yeast notes. Not unlike Orval. A lot of depth. Great mouthfeel. A really nice beer, sort of a Singel feel. The mouthfeel really careies it. Captures the essence of Belgian brewing, not just a shabby approximation. Really nice. Incorporates the Brett a lot better than most US beer.

500ml bottle shared by Ben. Pretty awesome saison. Toasty subtle malt, interesting zesty citrus tinged wheat tones. Quite an excellent Saison, light to medium bodied, hyper sessionable. I’d be really happy if I brewed this beer. Delicate, quite well done. Fast forward to 2023. 16oz 5.5% version. Thinking this one can't be the same beer I had in 2015 at all. Unappealing orange flavor trying to cover high temp brewing flaws presumably. Not that good. new numbers 6-3-6-3-12
