Description
Crooked Stave Brewing Company is an artisan microbrewery in Denver, Colorado. It was founded by beer lover and beer brewer Chad Yakobson. The establishment of Crooked Stave was the result of Chad’s years of travel and studies about beer brewing abroad. His study of Master of Science in Brewing and Distilling at a university in Scotland gave him the expertise to set up his own brewery. Crooked Stave brewery is known for their brewing specialty in Brettanomyces fermentations and barrel-aged sour and wild ales. Crooked Stave Brewing Company is home to some of the finest sour beers. Some of its remarkable beers are the Crooked Stave Surette, Crooked Stave Vieille and Crooked Stave St. Bretta.

Aromas are a fragrant blend of spice, apples, with a bit of solvent and something else. This is fairly tart. I've had chais that are mildly sweet to bittersweet to sweet but never tart. Certainly never this tart. It's not bad but I think it kind of fails at the concept. Probably be really good to cook with pork and maybe turkey.

bottle brought home from Fort Colins - 2014 (Sept). Awesome farmhouse - aged beautifully for almost 10 years. Crisp, not too sour on the palate. Quite nice

Draught at Tip Tap Room, 12/31/23. Clear, bronze-brass. Off-white head quickly to ring. Lemony, with light honey and moderate lactic character. Not particularly funky. Rather acetic, though in an old cidery way. Moderate lactic character. Some lemon, bits of acetic notes at the front of the palate. Maybe a touch metallic. Loose carbonation, quite malty. Tastes like Boon Gueuze, though less green apple and pixie stick. Bit of oxidation, bit sweet and sugary. No funk.

16oz can pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is nice rich chocolate spice and some vanilla. Taste is more of the nice sweet chocolate a little heat from the peppers and some cinnamon vanilla action going on.

Draught@CBC2016. Reddish brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma is raspberries, caramel, brett, some funk, yeast and quite tart elements. Flavour is sweetish sour with some berries, brett, funk, yeast and mild fruity and wooden tones too. Quite smooth, and hides the alcohol very well.

Can. Lightly hazy gold pour with a medium sized white head that has good retention. The aroma is strong with grapefruit and tangerines. The taste, similar to the aroma, has tangerines in the forefront with grapefruit and melons playing a supporting role. The palate is is light but effective and the carbonation is soft. Finishes somewhat short and dry. Overall: Decent IPA, It is indeed juicy.

--Sample, thanks oh6gdx! -- Murky bronze colour, small head. Aroma of pineapple, grass and grapes. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Fruit malt under grapes and passionfruit. Some hop burn in a finish with low bitterness.
